#### Polk TL1600 with Onkyo Tx-Nr709 ####

I am using an Onkyo HTIB HT-S9100THX (HT-R980 7.1 Receiver, 130W 8Ohm Speakers 7 nos & a 12" sub of 290 W max). This is my first home theatre and with me since 2009
Now I am thinking about an upgradation, not to an HTIB a descrete system
Onkyo TX-NR709 is the AV Receiver I selected according to my budget
The speaker is defenitely Polk initially TL1600
at first a 5.1 complete pack of polk and later on add two high range book shelfs by moving the TL1 fronts to the zone 2
same way the TL1 centre will be upgraded to a higher range by moving the TL1 centre to the rear
the upgradation may take another six or one year
The reason behind this selecton is TL series is reasonably priced and compact in size which will fit with my room
Room size is small and its 2.5 metre width x 3.5 metre length In this room my htib Onkyo is consuming a lot of space
In my budget another option is go for TX-NR609 which is less priced with the same TL1 or TL1600
[B]here my doubt is the TL1 or TL1600 pack is a good speaker set for Onkyo TX-NR709 in respect of Cont./Rms Output Wattage and Ohms[/B]

Go with the 709 it has amplifer preouts so you can add an amp later on down the road. The 609 doesnt. Both will drive those small speakers fine.

first of all thanks jboker82 for highlighting the amplifier preout fascility in 709.
from the leaflets of 709 I came to know that its output is 110W minimum at 8 Ohms, 20 hz - 20 khz, 0.07% THD per channel, two channels driven but the rating of polk TL1 is 10-100 W at 8 Ohms
110 W 8 Ohms into 100 W 8 Ohm speakers ????????????????????
please clarify this issue

You will be fine. Your way more apt to ruin a speaker by underpowering it. As you turn the volume dial up you start putting a heaver load on the amplifer. At some point the amplifer cannot keep up and the sound signal gets rough. The roughness is distortion. That is what ruins speakers. You wont be using all the power all the time. There are people who have 405 watt per channel sunfire amplifers running a pair of book shelfs that are rated at 150 watts.
