I didn't watch last night simply because I am not interested in most of the pomp and circumstance that is now popular music. The Grammy's are a joke.
.......but I had heard about Glenn Campbell's performance and I believe what he is doing with his Farewell Tour is legit and it was nice to see him back in the limelight for a bit. Also, I do really like Adele in her current form. Now that she has won a few Grammy's I hope she doesn't veer off track and try to stay relevant rather than following her own path. So many new talents are derailed because of the exposer, presssure and being famous that before they even realize it, they have sold out to become a cash cow and abandon what got them there in the first place.
Completely unrelated to the Grammy's, but I heard Sinead O'Connor's new cd is suposed to be back to her roots type of thing rather than all the detours she has taken over her career that basically flopped. No more traditonal Celtic music, Gospel music, show tune,,,,,,,etc. Back to what made her stand out all those years ago as an angst ridden just barely out of her teens artist who had something to say.
That is all

I wouldn't say any particular generation was "robbed" of good music based on who the Grammys deem "Best Rock Artist". You should know that.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

You didn't miss much...The Beach Boys were awful (let's face it, they're a 106 yrs old); Tony Bennett is finally losing the magic, Paul McCartney as well. I think Glen Campbell kick all their butts...lol. Maybe that is the secret? Foo Fighters have been around a long time, yet I can't think of a single memorable song. I've heard better garage bands.

I admit I have to be in the mood for YES, but it's not difficult to get into that mood.

I missed seeing Paul McCartney, the Beach Boys, Tony Bennett, etc., but I did catch the Glen Campbell portion of the show. I don't know if any of you caught the last American Music Awards where they paid tribute to Glen Campbell, but his performance on the Grammys was much, MUCH better. At the AMA, he had guitar slingers like Vince Gill and Brad Paisley to back him up, yet still showed signs of his dementia. This time around, he was totally ON. Wish Glen "guested" with the Beach Boys though. -
I watched the last 2 hours of it(didn't see The Beach Boys, but maybe I didn't miss much there), and have to agree, it kinda sucked. I saw Tony Bennett on American Idol a couple of seasons ago and thought then, man, it's time to let it go Tony, you've had an awesome run.Nicky Minaj's performance was horrible, sythesizer thing towards the end was forgettable. Paul McCartney's voice sounds 80 years old and the 2nd side of the Abbey Road combobulation thing at the end sounded like crap with all the different giutar players trading off leads, ruined it. I think one or two of the players actually sounded decent on their turns. Adele sounded awesome ,showed true talent.

Excellent!!! YES and Led Zeppelin! Is there anything (much) better? I am in complete agreement with you guys about this grammy award show. Some parts were so terrible I actually felt bad for the performers. And they were the ones that were of performance age (i.e. Nicki Minaj for one example). Terrible.
By the way Steve, do you have the MFSL YES Album? I have owned avery other version (on record and CD) and the MFSL copy is absolutely so much better. You need it.

I don't, but I'll definitely look into it. My CD's are actually old and first release type CD's, so they sound pretty darn good**---except the live CD's are awful.

Alter Bridge---now that is rock and roll I can wrap my head around. They are far and away better than anything this Grammy show had to offer as "rock n roll."

Definately look into it Steve. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Yes-Album-MFSL-Gold-CD/dp/B003IMERWY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329162308&sr=8-1

Excellent! The YES album especially is good.
The original Japanese remasters are good (came out in the early 90's) The remasters with catalog numbers starting at AMCY-360 to around AMCY-375. They are the 3 digit ones, not the two or four. These are the best standard (non-premium label) remasters I have heard. They are very similar to the ones you were talking about, but the high end and clarity is a little better.

Yep, lack of talent my friend. Music is now more about the show than the music itself. Foo fighters.....you'd have to pay me to go see them. Even then, you'd have to get me drunk first.
Adele was great, deserved her awards, no wild stage show she just belts it out. You wouldn't think a voice like that would come out of her....but it does. How is it that people with British accents can sing without them ?HT SYSTEM-

Foo Fighters are decent - I have 3 of their older albums and I can listen to them all the way through and enjoy them - haven't been so enamoured w/ their recent stuff though. I think everyone has a cut off after they reach a certain age, where they can't listen to anything new - different strokes for different folks. But I'd agree that most of the mainstream stuff is crap. I used to like Coldplay, but I've gotten tired of their sound as well.
I think my favorite rock album in the past year was 'Angles' by The Strokes. I haven't seen the nominee list, but I'm guessing they're not on it ...typical.
Anyway - my tastes are pretty eclectic, so if there is a lull in good rock albums, I'll just move over to trip hop / electronic for a while
OR - just pop in some classic rock.ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place
