With the Polk SR components discontinued, what am I supposed to do?

I really wanted to put a nice set of comps in my doors. I will already have a set of MM525 components in the kick panels. I was going to get a set of SR 6.5 inch versions of them in my doors. Now that they are completely gone, I don't know what I should do. I wanted my car to be all polk but I just can't justify the MM's when I can get the Kicker QS speakers for less than I will buy the polks. I don't know what to do, I don't want to spend more money if I can get better for less but I don't want that damn kicker badge anywhere in my car accept on the wiring. If anyone has some polk MM 6.5's for sale less than 190 or a set of the SR's I don't even want the grills, just the speakers and crossovers, please tell me. Also if somone has a set of MM525 grills lieing around I could sure use another set for my doors without having to pay polk 20 bucks plus shipping. Cause no matter what those grills are going in my doors.

Nice choice. One of the best out there under $300.

That being said, if youve already got speakers in your kick panels, why are you wanting some more to go into your doors? That aint gonna sound good unless youre just going to use the mids as midbass only and then you wouldnt need the tweeters or crossover.

    $207 on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-AA6514--6-5-Inch-Speaker/dp/B001C3K7I4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329111109&sr=8-1

They were $182 when I bought them back in march. Not sure if they fluctuate or have been steadily going up.

I can get them for 190 online... the point is to find them for less than that, Im just not sure I can justify it when I can get kicker QS components for less than that due to a direct from manufacturer discount. The SR's are to few and far between even online but I would rather have them. I really don't want that kicker badge at all tho...

I don't have nearly the experience that others do on here, so bear that in mind. Every kicker tweeter I've listened to, be it coaxial or component, has been unnecessarily harsh. They fatigue the ear quickly. The polks have much more of a silky high end. Now, I haven't listened to the QS components, so maybe they aren't as harsh. But it seems like kicker has always marketed themselves as loud, which does not always mean good sound quality. Unless the kicker comps are cheap enough that you wouldn't worry about trying them and reselling and replacing them if they aren't what you're looking for, I would just go for the polk.

If you manage to find the SR 6.5's, you're going to be paying $4-800 based on new/used condition and competitive bidding. $190 for the MM comps is a hell of a lot of bang for the buck. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of price tag are you looking at on the kickers?

Trust me, the SR's are the way to go if you can get a LEGIT, brand new set. I've used them in competitions since 2005 and have a pretty good record. They've gone up against the best speakers in the world and won. The tweeters take some work aiming and setting up to sound their best but its not that hard and their mids are among the best mids on the planet.

Now if its between a brand new set of Kickers vs a refurbished or shady set of Polk's, maybe the Kickers would be better but OCS is an authorized Polk retailer so if they say they've got a BNIB set, that's what it should be. Check the fine print tho and make sure they're not open box.

I wouldn't rule out a used or open box set completely. However, if you are going used, you do need to be a bit more careful in where you buy them from. If you can be sure that they were well taken care of and not abused, there shouldn't be any problem with going that route. But, this is the same advice I'd give when looking at any set of used speakers. I bought my SR5250's used, and I have no problems with them. They sound fantastic, and I would certainly recommend going that route if you can find a pair.

If the SR's are what you want, that is the route I would take. They are a very nice set of speakers & you will save yourself the hassle of selling & buying to get what you originally wanted.

just safe to say i get the kickers less than the 190 i can get the mm's for I am not supposed to disclose the actual number. If somone has some SR's lieing around that would be awesome lol. I have been wanting them for a long long while, but I doubt i'll be able to find a set by the time I can afford them in say april this year. I really hate the kicker badge unless its kicker wiring, that I use a lot. But the QS models seem to get high reviews so I don't know what to do

Hey man, I've got 2 sets of SR6500's along with a C400.4 amplifier i'm thinking of selling as I try to come to grips with selling my car for a family car... Let me know if you're at all interested.
