Was in Vegas last weekend and decided to head to the Hoover Dam for the first time. What an incredible engineering marvel! To think this was built back in the 1930's coming in 2 years ahead of schedule and under budget.

Just wanted to share one of my favorite shots from the trip.

"Where can I get some dam bait!!!"

I've seen that type of similar photo about a year ago on a documentary and it's shows just what kind of water shortage is going on out there.
It might 've been a special on the dam. That was an AMAZING build. They built a cement factory or three on the site and diverted the river while they built it. AMAZING WILL POWER!

That white color represents Billions or Trillions of gallons of water missing from the available water supply for the upper and lower recipients.

Uh....yeah, got that. A pic of the dam itself though would be nice.

A fine example of american achievement. Lots lost their lives too building that sucker, lets not forget. With great accomplishments come great risk, and I'll raise a glass to all who take that risk to make this country better.

You should have seen the levels around 2007/2008...it's actually getting better. Lake Meade as well.

I'm proud to say that my maternal grandfather was an engineer who assisted in designing the engine room of the Hoover Dam. Right after WWII, the Bureau of Reclamation stationed him for several years in Boulder City as director of all dams, etc. along the Lower Colorado River.

    I agree, cool pics.

I'd love to go on a tour of it myself.

Maybe the 2007/08 was when I saw the special on TV. People were really worried over the rain shortages in the West and Mid-West big-time! I'm glad the water level has improved!

Been over it once. It is amazing. The water is low and the water (especially the closer you get to where the Colorado River enters Mexico) is very very very salty. Good shots you took of the dam.

LMAO....."damn dam shots".....sorry for stirring the photo pot.

Pretty cool shots anyway. Looking at how some things are built into the canyon walls, I'm wondering what kind of earthquake preventative measures they under took in building this thing....if any.

Hoover Dam's one of the things on my bucket list. Awesome.

Re-reading up on it, found that of all the folks that died during construction, 42 that had worked in the diversion tunnels had the cause of death as "pnuemonia". ?

It is an engineering marvel. Can see why you're proud to have had you grandfather associated with it, Marcmarc.
