Old receiver with passive bookshelf spkrs and PSW10

Hi,
I just purchased a Polk PSW10 subwoofer and am awaiting delivery. I need an answer ASAP please!

I have an old Yamaha 35W stereo receiver and two passive Mission bookshelf speakers.

Question: receiver speaker out -> sub spkr in -> bookshelf spkr in. Is this OK?

Will the passive speakers receive the power from the receiver, just filtered by the sub bypass?

Is there a better way to hook it up?

Again - I would like to know as soon as possible please.
Thanks!
Ed

    Apologies!
This should have been posted on the sticky thread - connections.

    Refine my question:
Should I connect Mission M30i's ( rated to 75W) to channel A, and PSW10 to Channel B outputs of the receiver?

Or, should I connect the channel A to PSW10 speaker inputs, then connect the M30i's to the PSW10's speaker outputs?

Is there any other option (like record out to PSW10)?

    Apologies and thanks.

    Thanks tonyb.

Connecting as you suggest, does this mean the sub woofer will now be powering the bookshelf speakers?

No, the receiver will still power them, but the crossover in the sub is the one to use now with that hookup.

Yes, do the connection that way.

What happens is that the signal goes through the subwoofer and then out to the speakers as well. If I recall correctly, the Low Pass dial is not actually a crossover. Therefore, the subwoofer will output the frequencies at and below the Low Pass dial setting, but the output to the speakers will be actually be full range (including frequencies at and below the Low Pass dial setting).

Generally speaking, the receiver is supplying most of the power to the speakers, with only a smaller amount of power going to the subwoofer amp (though I don't know how much is the smaller amount sent to the amp).

You have that confused Mon........the receiver doesn't power any of the subwoofer, thats what the amp in the subwoofer is for. The self powered subwoofer takes care of the lower portion of the signal, depending on the crossover setting, and the receiver powers the upper frequencies to the speaker.
