So I might have screwed myself. Found a pair of VTL 300 Deluxe mono blocks that I agreed to buy. Well turns out I read the ad again and see they come with a 20A PC's. Now these have been fully modified by VTL with all the upgrades and I sent an email to the seller asking if they have to be run off a 20A connection or what.

I rent, can't help it until I finally get the job I want, so not really able to change out my connections.

I am running only my 2 channel on a single circuit right now. It states its a 15. I also have right next to my 2 channel the connection for my AC which is a built in wall unit. This on the breaker shows two 15 switches so a 30 amp. So could it be possible to run the two monos off the 30 amp connection while running the rest off the system off the 15 in the living room?

I don't really want to not get the monos but didn't realize that due to the upgrades they might have also had to change the connection as it used to be a 15 amp on the non modded monos.

The rest of the system is a BAT VK31 pre, Esoteric DV50 CDP, a wall wart for my TT and same for my phono stage.

HELP!

The important factor is what wire they ran to the outlets... If It's 14ga, forget about 20amp connections. If It's 12ga you can replace the 15amp breaker with a 20amp and replace the outlet with a 20amp one and you'll be fine.

So first thing, what wire did they run.

should I just be able to pull the plug out of the wall and see the label on the wire? Sorry Never looked at it and I doubt they would have used something better than what they needed to.

You can run it on the 15 amp feed but ofcource you'll need to change the PC's if they have the 20 amp pin config.Alterbnatively you could change the wall resepticle to a 20 amp type but do not change the breaker to 20 A.

Each mono requires 20 amps? In that case, you would need two 20 amp circuits. Do you have any specs on what they actually draw? I'm guessing it's not really that much, and if they have standard IEC connections, you could just change the cord.

As far as the air conditioner circuit, are the two switches tied together, or separate? If separate, it's just two 15 amp circuits, not a 30. Usually used when the panel is out of space for another circuit breaker.

If the gear plugs are standard, not the 20 amp ones with the 90 degree flip on one blade, then
just use them at low volumes until you can get them set up with enough juice to open them up.
If you have no self restraint, then don't buy them!

    (1) Just about any decent aftermarket power cord will handle 20 amps.

    (2) Some gear comes with a 20 amp IEC socket. Therefore, one needs a power cord with a 20 amp IEC end, but those cords use a 15 amp male end to plug into the wall outlet. I have a piece of gear and power cord like that and that may be what he has.

    (3) Nice amps, congrats! You'll be fine using them plugged into your outlet.
