Regrouped Beach Boys, w/ Brian Wilson, set to perform on uncoming Grammys

According to this USA Today article, the Beach Boy's first ever performance on the Grammy telecast will be the show's high point. Shockingly, the article also mentioned the Beach Boys has never won a Grammy (??!!)

With performers like Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney also on the show, I'm hoping they may "guest" during the Beach Boys' performance (TS been known to cover Beach Boys tunes during her concerts).

    I really hope the Beach Boys do themselves proud come Grammy night. Saw them at ODU 35 years ago ( geeez .... time flies ! ) and they held up well then. Just hope it's not a repeat of The Who's performance at the Superbowl (which made me cringe). I don't want to have to turn to my sons and say, "Well, they used to be good !". :redface:

    Go get 'em, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine.

    +1. I hope their performance is good. I had planned to see them this summer if they appear nearby, fingers crossed. :cool:

    I thought they sounded pretty good this evening taking into consideration it's their 50th anniversary. I've seen you tube clips recently of Brian and he still has an incredible voice.

    Whew ! The Beach Boys didn't embarrass themselves, they actually did pretty well considering the setting and the fact that they're old. :smile:
    Sat through "Good Vibrations" semi-chanting "Don't melt down, don't melt down, don't melt down" to Brian Wilson. Looks like he didn't need my help.

    On a side note: Foo Fighters, if I may offer an opinion: Get the F off the stage ! Good thing Death Mouse was there to save their derrieres. Youngest son had the opinion that Death Mouse didn't invent Skrillex, but pushed what he called the "Techno for people who like rock" sound.
    Thought that was pretty interesting.

    We were kind of perplexed by the Katy Perry performance. Number started out, then it sounded like an amp melted down with negative feedback, and .... Puff ! Katy Perry doing a number that looked like something Siegfriend & Roy came up with: kind of a "tiger in the air in a cage" thing. And with that Saran-Wrapped outfit she had on, yes, it must be said: that kitten's got claws !

    Nice to see Tony Bennet ! He still has it at his age ... Geez. Performance didn't have the usual "snap" to it, but it looked to me that Carrie Underwood was mis-matched for this performance.

    And finally .... Gwenyth Paltrow. 'Nuff said.

    Overall, good Grammy Awards. (ignoring Bobby Brown's award, and Maroon 5 / Levine's performance).

    Not according to looks, and staggering record sales, very dated artist, who woulda faded by end of fifties, as did carl perkins, and jerry lee lewis, just another footnote because he died young, just the facts nothing personal.
    Not an Audiophile, just a dude who loves music, and decent gear to hear it with.

    What's the deal with those people sitting in their seats typing away on their cell phones as the audience was giving Glen Campbell a standing ovation??!! The Grammys really should let Chris Brown rain down some punches on them.

    One thing I forgot to mention (even though I had double-posted :redface:):

    The award (don't know what it was for) to Gil Scott Heron. Best ..... ? or Lifetime Achievement Award for ?
    Don't know.

    But he did create one of the best pieces of poetry/anthems during the 60's. Epic, IMO. Monstrous, IMO.

    The Beach Boys were an annual event in the summer at the CNE. Many, many years ago.

    right... the guy wrote Not Fade Away and That'll Be the Day... to name just a couple. Both have been covered many times, and the latter was a hit for Linda Rondstadt in the 1970s. And a song about him was a big hit for both its writer (Don McLean) and, many years later, a hit for Madonna. Buddy Holly was a profoundly significant artist, particularly given his short sojourn.

    Jerry Lee Lewis, last I knew, is still out on the road performing.

    I'm gonna try to say this with as much love and respect I can, but it sucked. I love Beach Boys music, but it's time to put that bull out to pasture.

    When someone says he ruled any body, thats a OP, not backed up by facts, working the odies circut, and wrighting a few great songs does not put you in the same leauge as someone who holds more records than even the beatles, check out record stats, and the riaa stats, by the way, good job Pats,

    The Beach Boys' just scored their first Top 10 debut on Billboard's Top 200 album chart.
    At No. 3, the Beach Boys notch its highest charting album since 1974 as "That's Why God Made the Radio" debuts with 61,000. It's the group's highest-debut ever, and best rank since 1974's "Endless Summer" greatest hits set hit No. 1. In terms of studio albums, "That's Why God Made the Radio" is its highest-ranked since 1965's "Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)" reached No. 2. "That's Why God Made the Radio" is the group's 14th top 10 album overall, and first since 1976's "Big Ones" (No. 8).

    I know this thread's 4 months old but I couldn't resist.

    It's not always about record sales. Most of the English groups of the early to mid 60's cite Holly and the Crickets as a major formative influence. The Beatles came up with their name to, in part, pay homage.

    I have a 2 CD set of Buddy and the Crickets that has all of his well known songs, plus others I had never heard of. Start to finish it has great material. His writing on the more obscure stuff is first rate and those guys could really play!

    One of the great injustices in popular music is that Norman Petty, their producer, gave himself songwriting credit for much of their stuff when it was either Buddy or the band who actually came up with the ideas.

    IMHO if you don't know Buddy and the Crickets you have a great big void in your appreciation of and knowledge of rock music.

    Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge Beach Boys fan. :mrgreen:

    The CD is very enjoyable and very well produced. The tunes are catchy and there are a few standouts. Even though Mike Love had his hand in it, by the overall sound it almost could have been a Brian Wilson solo album. The harmonies are exceptional and it would be a welcome addition to any Beach Boys fans collection.
