what to do with monitor 7c speakers

I picked up a pair of minty Monitor 7c's, complete with boxes and original paperwork no less..
Anyway, I recall some experience with the monitor 7a's and recall them as being pretty nice overall but these 7c versions are not exactly making me want to call my neighbors over to check them out.
Is it the age? Perhaps some new caps and resisters??
Maybe I should just chuck the tweeters and go with a newer design that can be crossed over allot lower like the Seas or Scanspeaks and go through the process of a new crossover for them.
The bass response seems entertaining enough and the mids appear ok but they get shrill and glassy in the transition to the tweeter.. I can't help but think to use a nice broadband tweet and go with the old school series crossover and see what happens. I'm also thinking some cabinet damping like those car audio damping sheets would help in the lower mids too. Perhaps some light fluff of wool or poly as well..
Opinions?
Thanks.

Haven't heard them either, but others here think highly of them. These vintage Polks respond quite well to mods.
The Xovers are simple so I would start there. Use high quality caps and resistors. As Dskip said, Polk makes replacement tweeters that are a huge improvement and are designed for that Xover. If you tell them you're a Club Polk member when ordering, you get a discount + free shipping. When I ordered my RD-0198's tweeters they were $48 each.
Good luck and be sure and post when you have questions. Oh yeah, post pics if you can."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Welcome to Club Polk!
You can buy replacement tweeters from Polk. Not sure which ones you need for the 7C.
RD-0194 or
RD-0198
They'll definitely smooth out the high end. And of course...cap upgrades!
Maybe someone who owns these can chime in here. I suspect it's the 0198s?

Age may have taken its toll on the XO caps. Upgrade them while you are at it.

I own a pair, had 10A's, but prefer these more. Mine are still stock and I love them. My spring project is going to be having the crossovers done & getting new tweets. I can only imagine how they'll sound powered by my Sansui AU-717.Monitor 7C's With Tubes -
If they have the SL2500 all black tweeter use the RD0198 if you have the silver domed SL2000 use the RD0194.
You will loose the shrillness either way but the replacements are built to match a particular crossover.
Don't go aftermarket. They never work out well. Use the Polk Replacements and you will be very happy with the outcome. -
I run front monitor 10's rear monitor 7's and a monitor 5 as a center channel and for my money it is tough to beat. I will never ever change. I love all of them. The 7's stock are about as perfect as you can get in a speaker. It took time, money and work to get the 10's to sound great and the 5's are the best small speakers I have heard. I have done blind test with people and they are fooled buy the 7's and the 5's all the time. If I only had the choice of only 1 set of speakers, than my choice would be the 7's. Enjoy what ever your choice is.

That's an interesting set up which I may have to give some thought to after I pick up the 7Bs because I will be able to replicate that....hmmmmm

Just another thought. My wife loves the speaker's and laughs at other peoples " cube " system.
-
I forgot to say that all of my speakers came with or have been converted to the 2500 tweeters. If your's has the the 1000 or 2000 series tweeters they could be hash. I converted my 10's from 2k's to the 2500 tweeters and did the crossover's resealed the cabinets and the drivers and I have no need to Run a subwoofer. I have had people tear-up when I put on some music and they truly hear it for the " first " time. I also stopped looking for the " holly grail of speaker system's when it dawned on me it would take tons of money to replace a system that I was hands down very happy with, that may or my not give me better sound. in the end it is all subjective anyway. I have heard other peoples systems that they just gush over and I wanted to run away from. They always are WAY to bass heavy and super harsh highs, I was tired from being sonicaly assaulted. Also a thought run them for awhile and see if they clear up.

What will happen if I put mw6510 drivers in my polk 7c's? Thanks

Either you'll go blind or your speakers won't sound quite right. Why do you want to do that?
