Monitor 30 question

I just picked up a pair of these to go with my CS1. I am also running a subwoofer. My question is I see there are 2 sets of connectors in the back of the 30's for biamping, I am not too familiar with this. Would I benefit from doing this? My AVR is a denon 1911 so I think its capable. Also does it matter which set of connectors I use in the back if Im not biamping(top or bottom pair)..thanks

I started writing something about bi-wiring but then, I read your post again, and I started over... :P

Well, I think that using both your top/bottom or A/B pairs will create a higher impedance load on your AVR. If it's 4 ohm capable, it shouldn't have any problem driving it at higher volume level. However, if it's only an 8 ohm AVR, i wouldn't increase the volume level too much. Maybe you won't hear a difference as you're "splitting" your power in half from the start... which would overall be the same than single wiring it.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Bi-amping from the same receiver does not really affect the amount of power your speakers will receive. It will be the "same" so it really doesn't accomplish much. But you can go ahead and try.

When the metal connectors, called Jumpers, are connecting the top and bottom terminals you can wire one set of wires to the top or the bottom L/R terminals...it does not much matter.

If you bi-amp, you'll remove the metal jumpers and wire one channel to the top and the secondary channel to the bottom set (Two Lefts, Two rights).

As I said, it will not make your speakers play louder or affect the amount of power they receive, it will still be the same!

    Welcome to the forum Joes75. I have bi-wired most of my Polk speakers. For my mains, I enhance the jumpers, I did this;

    Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

Cables: AudioQuest McKenzie XLR's/CDP/Amp, Carbon 48/BRP, Forest 48/Display, 2 channel speaker cable: Furutech FS Alpha 36 12AWG PCOCC Single Crystal (Douglas Connection)

EXPERIENCE: next to nothing, but I sure enjoy audio and video MY OPINION OF THIS HOBBY: I may not be a smart man, but I know what quicksand is.

All Polk speakers that use the 5 way binding post are Bi-wired.

Bi-amping from the same receiver does not increase power to the speakers.

Bi-amping from the receiver has been very good for my RTI 4's.
My RTI's DO sound better since I bi-amped them.

Just to ensure I hooked my 30's up correctly... I used the top two posts and left the metal brackets between the 4. Was that correct?

Yep. Top or bottom, makes no difference if the jumpers are in.
Welcome to Club Polk! Have fun!

Yeah I paid 80 bucks also, got a sweet deal at newegg. These are big improvement from the 2 sattelites I had up front, was a great a upgrade and I can definately understand why the front 3 speakers should match, I heard the difference right away. My only regret is not having enough room to put rear speakers. LOL

Interesting way of looking at "jumpers"! Bi-amping, of course involves two sets of wires and four channels from an amp going to the double terminals x 2 speakers. Don't mean to disagree but I've bi-amped numerous Polk speakers off a number of AVRs and I just don't hear much of an improvement if any. But that's not to say you don't. Whatever works is good!

I read everyone here saying there will be no difference. I had the materials to do it right and put it to the test myself and quit listening to the experienced few. I did not think there would be a difference either. Bi-amping with my set up made mine sound a lot more open and gives me a deeper and wider soundstage, which you need for bookies. The mid/bass sounds cleaner and more powerful, more distinct bass notes. The tweeter sounds more powerful and has a deeper sounding presence, just better.

A few days ago, after running this way for about a month, I switched it back to stock and it did not sound the same. The sound stage was there but not as deep and wide as before and the tweeter sounded weaker, didn't have the punch I have been hearing.

So now it bi-amp for me as long as it works.
