Fortunately, the music I listen to doesn't seem to be affected by the loudness war.

Classical and Jazz recordings still sound GREAT!

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Seriously though, when they start compressing recordings by Enya, Andrea Bocelli, The Stimulators, Bolero, Mozart, etc. then I'll be pissed...

Until they start doing the same things the pop industry has. Its amazing how little press this gets compared to ripping at high bitrates. Like a low bitrate, once the dynamic range is gone, you cant get it back.

Not sure if they ever will. It seems like a recording style, as certain types of music (pop/rock) tend to be compressed more than other genres. And it doesn't seem to be related to date of release or format, for example Enya - A Day Without Rain is very quiet in comparison to Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway.
