LSi/FX for rear surrounds?

I'm currently running a 5.2 system & the LSi/FX are being used as my surrounds mounted on the side walls about 3 ft. behind the seating area. I'm thinking about picking up a pair of KEF Q800 surrounds to replace them & use the LSi/FX as rear surrounds on the back wall making a 7.2 system. I know that a speaker like the LSi/FX isn't ideal as a rear surround but is it that much of an issue? I know a front firing speaker is the preferred speaker for that application but will I be sacrificing that much by keeping the LSi/FX for that application?

I use FXiA6's in the rear surround placement in my 5.1 and they sound fantastic. Much better than the front firing speakers that I was using IMO. I think you'll be happy with the results, the LSiFX's are great speakers for any surround dutyHome TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

My only suggestion would be to try them out and see what they sound like. I would assume the LSi/FX would perform better as side surrounds and suggest using the KEFs for your rear surrounds, but since you have your side surrounds mounted 3-feet behind you... I'd just swap them around and see which you like better.
But generally speaking, you would want the side surrounds to be more diffuse than your rear surrounds. That's why the bipole/dipole design was invented, for the side surrounds. Since the rear channel is balanced L/R, you would want it to be easier to pinpoint (less diffuse) so that you can easily determine that it is coming from directly behind you.

I'll probably pick up a pair of the KEF Q800 surrounds & see how I like them compared to the LSi/FX as side surrounds. Then I'll most likely go with a pair of KEF Q100's for the rear surrounds. If I like the KEF Q800's more so than the LSi/FX I'll just sell the Polks, now if I like the LSi/FX over the KEF Q800's I'll just send them back. I'll have 30 days to play around."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up.
