New Wheels...HRE 3-Piece

I just snagged a pair of HRE 3-Piece rims for my ride...or the wife's Audi. I'm not sure where they will go at the moment but the price was silly and I've been wanting to get a set either way. The stock rims on hers suck and I'll either put my 19" Audi Y spokes on hers or the HRE on her Q5. I need to drop them off at my local wheel shop to get polished up and get a scrape fixed. They list for new for a ridiculous $2900 and I got them for $800/shipped. While not in perfect condition, their pretty tight.
What do you guys think? Mine or hers? Either way she's getting something better than the stock rims and tires she has now. I actually think they would look best on her Q5, with some nice Yokohama Parada All-Season. I'm going with those based on previous experience and a smashing great price at Tire Rack right now. Total investment on the vehicle would be about $1500, mounted, balanced, freshly polished and shined.

Polished? Yours.

So put them on mine, send mine to hers?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

IMO, yes.
Your current wheels, same bolt pattern as the Q5? -
I think the stock rims on your A5 look sexy as hell.
The Q5 on the other hand would look nice with the new rims.
It does not take long, just swap the rims on both and find the combo you like best. -
I like the look of the HREs on the Audi.
Time to get some gansta rims for you G5.:cheesygrin:Carl -

Put the HRE on yours and put a 22 on the Q5. The Q5 will look awesome with that wheel well full. Nice and tucked baby. HRE 795 with tires for 1900.00

I'm not sure you looked at that website close enough in regards to pricing Sherardp. Plus, I already have the rims and I'm not putting 22" rims on my wife's vehicle as I'm not trying to build up a reputation or anything, just a modest upgrade is all I need.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Yeah your right, prices are a tad insane with Superbuy as they change it up so much. Q5 is a nice truck, ride it stock or upgrade it with something a tad smaller like a 20" wheel package. If you can score another set of those 19s, those will look good on anything. I love a 5 spoke wheel with a nice dish to it.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Well, as it stands, they're going on the wife's Q5 with some new Firestone Destination ST 275/45R20. I may mount them on mine to see what they look like but I like this arrangement best so far. They come this week and there off to the wheel shop to get freshly buffed/polished and a small curb scrape fixed.
I'm looking at OEM spec's of 235/60R18 @ 39mm offset by 8" width + 5x112. The new HRE specs are 275/45R20 @ 42mm offset by 9.5" width + 5x112. This should put them at about 6/10" further from the fender centerline which is perfectly acceptable and won't cause any issues.
The tires come next week and we should be rolling on new shoes with 2 weeks. Since I already owned the Yokohama Parada Spec-X previously, I thought a new tire would be cool. I haven't owned a Firestone, ever and based on some research and reviews, they appear to be pretty nice. They don't have to be perfect, just better than OEM and they seem to cover all those bases. I really like the tread pattern to boot.
This is exciting and hopefully she'll like them as much as I do....but not likely. Anyways, at least I can get the embarrasing OEM rims off and sold for a few hundred to pick up some costs.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Shawn - Awesome, that makes me feel much better about them. How are they in rain and if you've had them in the summer, how sticky do they get in high heat?
Sherardp - Already locked up but have been wanting to try a set of the Gorilla brand locks. When I do the next set of wheels, I'll check them out. These right? http://www.gorilla-auto.com/gorilla-guard-locks
Does anyone see any fitment issues with a 20" rim, 9.5" width with a 275/45-20? I can't get an exact guide that says that tire will fit that width. Does anyone have a fitment calculator?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? I have had Firestone destinations a couple times. Nice in snow and rain. My only complaint was tread wear was a little short at 30K miles.
Mark, I am going against the grain and saying that I like the wheels on both cars as is. But, they're your cars so do as you will. -

The specs for that tire show it will fit an 8.5-10.5" wide rim. You're right in the middle and will be fine.
I would mention to your wife that her speedo will now be about 2.2% off. Her speedo will read slow. The calculator I used said if it reads 60mph it should actually read 61.3 mph. I would just tell her to add 2mph to what ever it reads. -

Thanks Upstate on the sizing. 20" are an option for this model so the speedometer isn't a problem or a worry.
Max - Roger that. I never really expect rated tire wear so that's a given. If I get 40 maximum, Im happy with a tire. The speedo is calibrated to the TIRE size not the rims... The overall diameter of the new tires is larger, resulting in a speedo that reads slower than it should.
The speedo will be off, but well within standard specs. It should be kept to at least within 5% of factory sizing. -
Yeah, I well aware of what you mean since with bigger rims come bigger tires right? It sure would look funny if I forgot that I have to add tires.
Point taken hoss and I'll change the wheel parameter when I install them with my laptop.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Haha, I know. I'm just saying that even with 20's you can get tires that will basically match the overall diameter of the original wheels. I think the closest would be 255/45/20 tires.
The 275/45/20 tires have a taller sidewall than the 255/45/20 so the over diameter of the wheel is "too" large. -
Oh yeah, now I got you. Yes, totally agreed. I hadn't even thought of that actually but never try to stay within spec's.
