Will a sub make my M60s better?
I recently picked up a pair of Monitor 60 Series II and a Pioneer VSX-821-K. I intend to use my system for music, and a little general TV viewing. Will adding a sub round out the sound of this setup? I am not thinking thundering bass, just good musical bass. Thanks, in advance, for humoring another newbie.

Sure, a sub would be great to augment the 60's. Have a budget in mind ?HT SYSTEM-

I would like to stay under $300 on a sub. I only have $387 in the 60s and the VSX-821. A pretty good system for the money, so far.Monitor 60 SeriesII

I think I would prefer new. But, I will keep an open mind. I don't need to go high end, so I would think I can do ok in my price range with something new. I wish that I had enough free time to hit some local dealers and listen to some systems, but the job, the kids, and the wife keep me too busy!Monitor 60 SeriesII

If new, Polks 505 sub is a good bang for your buck and sites as Polks ebay site or Newegg are always having sales. Plenty of offerings from other makers too.HT SYSTEM-

Thanks for the input Tonyb. The 505 looks like a good sub, and a good price ( when Newegg gets it back in stock). I will be keeping my eyes on that one. I am still breaking in the 60s, and they sound better with each hour of play. I think adding a sub, to take over the low end, will really make them shine. Thanks again for your suggestion.Monitor 60 SeriesII

Well sense no one else asked and it needs too be asked, what size room are you working with? The size of the room really effects which sub would be the best fit. A 8" driver may work fine in a small 8x10 room but not so well in a room that is 20x30Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

The current listening space is 15'x15, with a 7' ceiling. That is subject to change as I am currently renting a house and planning to purchase a home at some point. But, the current space is what I need to "fill". Between furniture and other stuff, the room is kind of cluttered. But, it is my allocated listening area for now...sigh.Monitor 60 SeriesII

Excellent point! Room size is important. 12 inch subs in small rooms=major fail!
Also, system purpose is also very important. For a 100% HT system a 12inch sub is a good choice. If you plan on a music/HT dual purpose system, i would spend my money on a quality 10 inch sub. The 505 is not a good choice for you if you focus mostly on music. There are many quality 10 inch subs to choose from. M60s + a nice sub is a VERY nice combo!Living Room 7.1 HT Rig:

Thanks for th input. I was thinking along the same line here. Mostly for music, and not a huge room. I am thinking a 10", and eyeing the DSW PRO 550. I should have pulled the trigger on that one while it was still on sale last night.Monitor 60 SeriesII

I have the DSW PRO 500 running with my Monitor 60's in my 15' x 18' living room and they sound great... You won't go wrong with that choice, in my opinion.
