I have never purchased any car audio stuff except radios in the last 10 years. I will be upgrading the factory sound system in my 98 frontier i just purchased. The doors can hold 6 1/2" and there is a place for a tweeter so i was thinking components? But i dont know how those work, there is a little black box that comes with them, do you have to run 12v and remote to that box? If so i will not go that route i just want to use the existing wires to the speakers. I am buying a Alpine radio that will only have the door speakers connected to it so suggestions on speakers that will only be powered by the radio. Next is bass, right now i have a cheap amp on a cheap 10". I want to upgrade the amp and the 10" sub. I want a small sized amp since i dont have to much space, I was thinking maybe a 300w amp and no idea on sub nor what ohm i will need for it. Thanks for any suggestions! Excited to get this thing rockin!

No regarding powering the crossover. You will take the factory speaker wire and plug it into the input section. Then there will be a woofer output and tweeter output. Make sure to keep track of polarity when you do this. Components will sound much better than coax. I would suggest Alpine MRX50, I got mine from cartoys.com for $180 and mine outputs 592W at 2ohms. Consider the polk 10 inch MM sub, they are cheap on onlinecarstereo.com or crutchfield. Get a DVC sub so that you have wiring options and can maximize power to the sub.Audison Bit Ten

If you're not wanting to run any speaker wires and just want to go the simplest way possible then I suggest skipping components and going with a set of coaxials instead, especially if you're just going to be running them off the CD player. Get a set if the MM coaxials and drop them in the doors and unplug the factory tweeters in the sail panels.
As for amps and subs, you wont need much. Best Buy has the PA amps on sale and you can get the 880 for $203 which is a steal. Pair it with a single MM 10 2 ohm version in a sealed box and you're set.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Since i am going to be in the door anyways and if components are better should i just get them? Only reason why i didnt want them is because I thought you had to run power to the boxes. I looked for the mm speakers and sub you speak of and all descriptions say marine speakers is that the correct ones?

All of the polk MM line is marine certified. Here are some links to get you started:

Thats just saying that theyre marine certified so you can run them in a boat if you want to and about all their speakers are marine certified. You can still use them in a car though with no problems. Just means their a little water resistant.
Components would really be a waste if youre not going to mount the tweeters separately and not going to use a good amp for them. If youre just wanting "plug an play", coaxials are the best way to go. Nothing wrong with it either. Youll still get great sound from them. One of my favorite all time speakers is the old MMC690 Momo 6x9's. Had those in my old Dodge Ram for a long time and loved them.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
