Booking a trip to Oahu in May

I am in the final stages of picking a couple dates for a week on the island of Oahu in Makaha. My friend owns a condo there so that's covered. I've been keeping an eye on flights and it's looking like about $1k round trip via Hawaiian air for the two of us. We will be staying for 8 days.

Any tips, suggestions or ideas? Especially when it comes to the different airlines or deals that can be had to save some coin on the flights.
If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

    We've had good luck with Delta and American for trips to the Big Island (2006 and 2010) and Maui (2008). Kauai is this summer's destination!

    I watch Kayak now and get alerts as better fares become available.

    Also, check with local travel agents. Sometimes they seem to come up with rates that are never posted for the general public and are cheaper.

    I have a thought...

    It really sucks when you forget to hire a cleaning service to spiff up your buddies condo and have to be a friggin house slave the last day of vaca in Hawaii cleaning the condo LOL!

    I book the cleaners first! THEN THE Flights lol

    SCREW the last day memories! ! LOl... I found out at the ripe age of 17 that we can pitch in and get a maid for like 200 bucks. 35 a piece, she gets a tip and I don't gotta do s@#t on the last day lol
