First time posting I hope I am doing it right. I have 4 Monitor 10's and 1 Monitor 7 and want to use these as my 5.1 system. I love the sound these give and dumped the rest of my speakers, a Primus 7.1 set-up The question I have is I want to put 2 of the 10's and the 7 inside a custom built entertainment cabinet. They will be off the floor but I am worried about the sound being flush but inside a box like a bookshelf type setup. Has anyone done this? Thanks

Probably not a good idea, soundwise.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Hold on. Lets not be hasty.

There are lots of viable options as long as the surfaces and placement is correct a full wall type thing is totally doable.

That is kinda what I was looking at. Put the plasma in the center with 2 vertical units on the side for components that's where the 10's would go the 7 under the plasma

    Will it work? Yes.

Will it sound like crap? Yes.

    Sound like crap? Why?

Some of my best sound is face front and no toe in. The whole aiming thing is bogus. For sure and for certain. SDA or not.

If what you are talking about is aiming the speaker at you if they are like 8-10 feet wide toe in yes I belive that I lose all

My sound stage I point them straight ahead and have them 6 - 8 inches off the ground. But will the sound be bad? I have not found any
Center I like that will match up with the monitor 10 than another 10 or the 7which I like best.

I am not huge on the whole toe in thing but you probably got that. Start with the cs20. I cant validate that as I have not had that level but I hear it enough that it should give you a reference. Just align the tweeters on a horizontal plane and all is good. If you are building it you should have no problem. Draw a line straight across you ear elevation as you sit and watch/listen that is the height that you want the main tweeters.

Thanks I think I am going to mock up something to use as a test bed. I really want to use the monitor 7 as a center and it blew me away. My primus system had the pc350 3 way 5 speaker center and it just was not right to my ears. On a whim added a full size speaker and everyhing changed, my next door neighbour put 4 monitor 10 out for the trash and their was nothing wrong with them. They are mine know and the sound blew me away, after listening to the polks the infinitys went onto Craigslist and I am a polk convert for life. So that's my story and what I want to do. I guess nobody has tried to put floor standing speakers in a wall unit it will be a good project to play with while I refinish and rebuild the speakers

5hi7!! wish my neighbor would do that! LOL. Just keep in mind the triangle of sound measurements and all will be good. If you build them in you will be limited to furniture movements and adjustments based on separation distance.

Get it right the first time....

    C. Williams,I'm running a set up somewhat like yours. Im running monitor 10s as mains and three 7bs as center and surrounds I love it the 7s do a great job as centers with the 10s.Now on to your question, I think you would be better off using stands if possible. If that doesn't work for your room try the other way but I think you will get some echoing from built ins.Enjoy your new setup, even with the fifteen year old bottle you got the better end of the deal.Just my 2 cents. I can't belive he kicked them to the curb, but the wife said it was a new Bose set up and the big ugly speakers had to go or her, he said he thought about it for a little bit, and bought the new system. I think what I am going to do is make the unit not so wide use the 10's on stands outside the center and put the 7 inside center on a built in stand the same height as the 10's flush with the front edge and egg crate type sound damping on the back wall. I am going to mock it up and see how it works.

    C. Williams,I have mine in my shop I had to make a shelf for everything to set on up high enough so I don't put a board through anything.I have the mains and center on that with my receiver, amp and CD player. The surrounds are on the sides of the shop. Not the best way to set them up but that's what I had to do to make it work for me.Try to mock things up and see what works in your room.I'm sure with the speakers you have you will be happy,If you can get the tweeters about ear level would be best.Hope this helps.
