My ex mother in law has a co-worker who is selling the car in the ad above.

I know nothing about Daewoo's...or any other car for that matter. I assume the windows are an easy fix, but what about recharging the AC?

Also, I've rarely ever heard of a Daewoo...

Stay far away from Daewoo; you can get much better cars for not a lot more.

    +1

Why not go with something else that has a proven track record (and easy to get parts for)?

    polkaudio DSWPro550WI

Use google to reliability on that car. Expect to replace the ac, probably close a grand.

Does it use oil and how does the tranny shift would be the most important questions to answer. Also does the timing belt if it uses one need to be replaced. What about cv axels?

Any of the above items could come close or exceed the purchase price.

If the car checks out and your drive low miles it might be ok but I would pass, not a brand I see much of on the road.

Stay far far away from that car, there just have to be better options out there at around that same price.

Daewoo has actually been selling cars in the US for a very long time, it's just that they have usually been rebranded as something else. Remember the Pontiac Lemans? That was a Daewoo. Same with the first-generation Chevrolet Aveo a.k.a. Pontiac G3.

Edmunds.com rates the 1999 Leganza as a 5/5 for reliability, so you can take that for whatever it's worth.

    http://www.edmunds.com/daewoo/leganza/1999/reliability.html

I have no opinion on Daewoo (or Edmunds, for that matter), but speaking in general terms, I don't think the Korean brands (Daewoo, Hyundai and Kia) get a fair shake here in the US. Seems to be a stigma attached to them.

Everyone here is right. Daewoo makes good cars, GM had to buy them so they would stop importing the Leganza back in about 2001 or so as the Leganza was killing the GM mid size line up. Now with that said, how do you rate the GM fleet of mid to small size cars against say a Carolla, Camry, Civic, Accord..."you pays your money, you takes your chances."
