Gary Dodd modded Audcom 110 Tube Pre

For your consideration is an Audcom 110 tube pre-amp. This is in excellent condition, some light scuffing on the top, I really can't find any other marks or scratches. I bought this from dkg999 a couple years ago that he bought from Russman a year or so before. I have stolen the description from Russman's post:
Audcom AP-110 Tube Preamplifier w/ remote
2 x 6N3 / 396a / 5670 4 in, 2 out. Sonicap mod. 2005 MSRP $400 + Mod. Western Electric NOS 396a's installed, will ship with a pair of high test RCA 5670 also.
This has the RCA Command 5670's in it, I have the Western Electric tubes for it also, and probably at least one other set of tubes I'll ship with it. The RCA tubes have a little less tight bass, but better mid/high's. The WE 396's have tighter bass, but I thought the highs were a little rolled off. You, of course, can roll the tubes and decide for yourself. I have the original box. The remote is in excellent shape and has mute/volume. This pre is a great introduction to tubes, or a good office pre with the mute button handy when the phone rings. This also has the output caps modified to SoniCaps, Russ had Gary Dodd do the modification. This is one very sweet sounding pre-amp, for not a lot of $'s!
There is one slight imperfection!!!!! The AUX1 input has the right channel that does not work. There is a cold solder joint, as you can wiggle it just right and it works. I tried to gently resolder it, but it didn't fix it and I didn't want to apply much heat. If your handy, it's probably an easy fix. It came this way, and it never bothered me because I had 3 other working inputs and that was plenty. I want nothing other than full disclosure for Club Polk!
$275 including shipping to CONUS, extra tubes, and I'll throw in a generic power cord. MO preferred. This does respond well to a Signal Cable Magic Power Cord, but hey, cords/cables don't make a difference do they!

Nice pre.
Before Dave bought it, it spent a month on loan (from Doug) in my old rig. Anyone looking to get into the tube world, this is a perfect gateway drug to get you started.

Dave, FYI your photo's can't be enlarged when you cick on them. They appear to be thumb nails."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. You've had it all these years with a channel out?

There is only ONE channel out of ONE input. The TWO channels on the other THREE are just fine. -
Sorry but paypal is just fine. I did a copy of an earlier post and missed that point.

That looks pretty sexy and it has TUBES!!!!"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)

I pm'd Russ about this pre a little while ago. He told me that Gary said that other than changing the caps he wouldn't do a thing else to modify it. It was just great the way it was. Just more food for thought for ya'll.
By the way, c'mon people! Baby needs a new pair of shoes!
With this sale I'm looking to get a pair of Lsifx or Lsi7's to complete my HT. More than likely will be my last large purchase in a very long time. Will consider trades. -
Do you want to trade for a pair of LSi7? If so, consider it SOLD and we'll work out the small details in email. You have to throw in those Wagner blocks....OR what's the status on the Signal Cable power cord?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Great little tube pre! It was my experiment with tubes in my current system, and started the chain of upgrades to a Rogue 66 Magnum pre, and then to an ARC SP-16L pre. For the price point this little pre-amp is very impressive. As with all tubed gear, money spent on really good tubes is the best upgrade/mod you can make.
Mark - I didn't realize those were my pictures, I still have those isolation blocks around somewhere. Not sure where at the moment. I just moved into a house I'm renovating and all the gear is in boxes at the moment.DKG999

Yeah, I'm excited to setup a small rig somewhere in the house, not sure where. Or I may just keep it boxed up for something down the road. At the price it's just a no brainer to pick it up.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? I have a question, I thought about this piece, and buying a separate phono pre.
Comparing to the adcom 750 Im STILL waiting to see a pic of here, and i hope im still at the head of the line for.
Can anyone put into semilaymens terms what the sound differences would be.
Im not so much talking about tube sound compared to ss, jerryj12 loaned me a little tube amp, and i get the difference there.
What i am wondering, would this pre have as much gain as the adcom, would it pack the punch, or is it mainly the tube sound you are getting.
BTW, i realize the 750 also does not have a phono section.
Congrats to doro, it sounds good to hear you excited about an audio purchase, hope you get a lot of great listening time on it.humpty dumpty was pushed
