I did a similar thing with my setup. my speakers are about 13ft apart and angled toward the listening position. I placed a piece of tape on the wall directly behind where my head is. I used my laser pointer and basically aimed my tweeters directly at the tape. I did the same with my center. Its slightly angled up. I was surprised at the difference in sound when moving to the left and right of that position.

all in all it didnt cost anything and it was pretty cool to see how slight changes make a difference.

... not all is written in stone. I find the ear at tweeter level one particularly not true.
Ditto... I think the ear level tweeter thing is a relic from the pre-dome tweeter audio era. Back in the day you had to at level, but not on-axis least you be subjected to the dreaded "beaming".

Yeah, I use the Cardas speaker placement formula for a rectangular room and it puts my speakers 5 ft out into the room.
It can be amazing how much of a difference getting speakers away from the front wall and into the room can make. While a requirement for bi-poles, it's true for many "box" speakers as well. Room gain is not every speaker's friend.

First up is the listening position. Take note of the 13" space behind the couch... This ... allows me to somewhat be 16"-ish off the back wall...
    Very on-topic comment...

I can't tell you how many rigs I've visited where the owner has their couch/ chair shoved up against the rear wall. Nothing kills the sound of a rig quicker than near, rear-wall reflections. And often all it takes is a foot or so...

I have never cared for the tweeters beeming straight at me; I've tried it with every speaker I've owned, and it just didn't fit my preference. I like about 1/2-1" of toe-in. I also prefer my ear level to fall between the tweeter and woofer (on a 2-way design).

I bet your bass is muddy, a 68Hz tone needs 15 feet to fully develop. It's going to be tough in a small area like that....bookshelves? Lsi7's would work much better.

15 feet eh? Never knew that. If only I had done my homework before putting down the cash. Oh well, if I ever move into a bigger place, I'm well prepared.

I've always shot for a layout where I could keep the LP at a wall for bass reproduction. Coming from a Bose setup, you'll understand my desire for that not to mention I had to introduce subwoofers to maximize the freq. range. I no longer have that issue but I agree that the wall reflections do play a part even in my setup. Unfortunately I have to work with what I have. Hopefully I can incorporate a large room treatment on the back wall and smaller tall sections for the area behind each tower.

I find that so interesting. That there is no "perfect" setup. Its pretty cool that different small adjustments cant make a person like or dislike a setup. It makes me want to tinker around, always wondering if i am missing out on something.

Well, we have to remember our listening rooms aren't anechoic chambers. So a little "tinkering" is in order to get the tonal balance you prefer. One mans "sweet treble" is another man's "forward treble."

We've all seen the "setup guides" ya know...speakers out in the middle of the room. Yeah, right. They must not be married...LOL She gets 95% of the master bedroom walk-in closet, and if we're lucky, we get the 8' x 10' spare bedroom for our "audio room."

True dat... I got two nails and a hanger...

But in return I got the "office" for a 2-ch cave... plus the formal LR for 2-ch and the for HT...

It's not luck... you just need a better agent...
