My Vintage Polk collection

The room I keep all of the extra equipment in was getting too cluttered. While I was reorganizing and creating somewhat of a keep/ get rid of list, I thought I would get all of my vintage Polks together for some pictures.

The SRS's stay in constant use in the den 2ch rig. The small surround set (I can't remember their model #'s right now) is in use in the bedroom surround system. The RTA12's and the SDA 2A's get regular rotation through one of the other 2ch rigs throughout the house along with other non-Polk speakers. The other ones currently get little to no use and I'm currently trying to decide what to do with them.

    I guess you're a Bachelor?

No I am actually married to a wonderful woman that puts up with me and all of this stuff. She doesn't get it or understand the need. To her a speaker is a speaker. She has told me though that my "junk room, has to go before long" so my two youngest daughters can have separate bedrooms. Part of the reason for making the keep/ get rid of list. Between the Polks, Advent, DCM etc. collections and all of the other speakers, amps, pre's etc. The herd has got to be thinned. If not she may not remain so accepting of me and all of this.

I guess that would be subjective. The display is 82". Just the right size for my space IMO, though I'm sure it is small to some of the guys around here.

I have performed a number of mods to the SRS's but have not done the tweeter upgrade. none of the others have been modded.
    Thanks.

Sweet! Kind of looks like my house.

Good luck making the decisions on which ones to keep...

The large SDA-SRS's and the 1C's should be the last to go, IMO.

82" is huge. I just got a 46" and is more than big enough for my small living room. Anything bigger will need to move head from side to side.
The big speakers on the back are really huge then, almost as tall as the TV.

I have a small inexpensive collection of Polk -- Monitor 5, Monitor 4.6 and S8.

Looks like a decent collection but it's time to trim them down and ditch a couple of the dogs.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Agreed, I think the 1C's will probably go as they sound the worst to me of all of them. The sound stage is good but the overall range and impact is very weak compared to even the 2A's. Definitely keeping the 2A's as they are my favorites and the SRS's as they are next, if for nothing else, the testosterone factor. Would like to try modding the RTA 12's before deciding. Most of the small ones can go as I don't use small bookshelf styles except for rears in my HT rigs. I'll be getting some more pics and hitting Craigslist soon.

Are those little piano black speakers in pic 3 5jr's? also in same pic would those drivers be compatible with a 7C?? Cause I could use a one for one of my 7C's and the 5jr's would be cool to pair with my piano black Monitor 5Jr+ Series 2 towards a HT.

Loose drivers are spares for the SRS's. Don't recall the model # off the top of my head.

The black speakers are Monitor 5 series 2 not sure about the Jr on those. I know the ones with the peerless tweets are 5 Jr's.

Ok, thanks for reply. I'm digging those Monitor 5 series 2 If you're looking to get those to another Polkies home ie; mine PM me and hopefully we can strike a deal.

Are you talking about the ported ones in the middle? Those are Monitor 4's, not 5's.
I was wondering about that based on them being ported, I would assume they would still work well in a HT with my Monitor 5Jr+ Series 2.

There are some 4's there, they are the smaller ones towards the outside of pic 3 with the smaller square tweets. the black speakers in the middle beside the center channel, are labeled Monitor 5 series 2. The ones between those 2, with the Peerless tweets are early version Monitor 5 Jr's.

Maybe mod a couple of the smaller pairs to do something different than the rest of the ppl here. The same speakers are always getting done and it's not very interesting anymore.

Good point. Bubbles, you should mod those 2A's since you like them and let us know what your impressions are. I have them and love them but they got replaced by some modded 1C's... I am having a hard time selling the 2A's because I think they are too good for their "market value" and think maybe I should just keep em and mod em.

Re: modding RTA 12's, been there, done that. It was expensive d/t the large number of caps involved. I used all Sonicaps and mills, + did a few other things. To me it was totally worth it.

I've always loved the way they sound, and the mods bring them to another leve. Clarity, smoothness, bass is all there. When I had some issues w/ my 2.3TL's I replaced one speaker with one of my modded RTA 12C's to work out whether the problem was upstream or with the speaker. I was shocked at how good it sounded with the other 2.3TL in a large room.

They're now doing HT duty as front L-R mains, powered by a Carver TFM 42. Oh yeah, they love lots of power!

DCM TF-V8.0's used in the HT rig. The SRS's normally sit where they are as well but only hooked to the 2 ch rig.
