Hey........I just purchased a polk psw111 to set up a 2.1 ch system. Room is midsized and I'll use this set-up mainly for music listening (obviously)

I think I want to make connections using the speaker level ins/outs, but I have never done this with a sub.
So my questions are.....

1. Is this a recommended connection for listening to music
2. What's the proper way to make this connection
3. Is there any down side or caveats using this connection [ie: setting mains / filter / crossover]

Thanks for any help you can give

You might want to tell people what speakers will comprise the 2 part in for them to give you the best advice.
MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370
    OFFICE: Polk Lsi7; REL T3; HK 3490; CA 840W; Onkyo C-S5VL
    BENCHED: CS20; OWM3s

it depends on your speakers. IMO if you where to run book shelf speakers i would do a LFE out from your receiver, and set the speakers to small. If you have full size speakers or towers, I would do the sub inline via speaker cables. Set your speaker setting to large and play with the crossover on the sub.

The reason being, that the book shelf speakers cant handle much lows and it would end up being easier letting the receiver handle the crossover. Larger full size speakers will handle a fuller range with more detail. You will be able to fine tune the Crossover at the sub and get a good synergy between the sub and the speakers.

    Thanks specd_out,

I will be using bookshelf speakers Kef iQ10. I understand your explanation, however, I plan on using this set-up for listening to music. If I connect the sub via LFE, will I get info sent to the sub? I'm still figuring this stuff out, but I thought LFE was useful for (HT) dolby digital content for surround sound stuff. Is that right?
