Can I connect my SRS 3.1 TL's without the interconnect?

At the risk of sounding like a heretic and with all due respect I need to know if I can connect and listen to my (inherited) SRS 3.1 TL's without the interconnect? Better yet would be to find a replacement cable but it would need to be a long one.......like 18 feet. The configuration of the room has forced me to place the speakers in what I believe to be from my reading a "non optimal" position. They will be facing each other about 15 feet apart (man am I embarassing myself here?) My ear is not well refined (and when I say ear I do mean ear........I am deaf in my left one) but I do enjoy good rich warm sound. Maybe someone can give me some options ......... I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

The placement is not just bad it is terrible. They need to be next to each other facing straight forward not across from each other.

Not using the interconnect limits what they can do by a lot but if this is your only placement option than using an interconnect will make the problem worse.

You may want to look into better placement or finding a speaker that will fill your need and placement issues better. You will not hear the SDA benefit this way at all.

I am pretty sure this gent wont get the SDA effect at all...The effect is based on a balanced hearing from both ears. They are timed to cancel the extra distance from opposite channel to opposite ear.

I would set them where they sound best to you regardless of optimal positioning requirements. No offence but the deaf thing sort of limits your SDA experience.

@SDA1 ...... No offense taken at all! Yes thats pretty much been my experience with all stereo sound, so I'm not too hung up on the details. It just has to "sound good" to me.

@Joe.............I can turn the speakers so that they are not facing each other when I am listening on the other side of the room. I'll play with it a bit.

I think you have answered my question. I will go through a little "trial and error" by starting without the interconnect and then play with the placement to the extent that I can. Hopefully I will find sound that I find satisfying. If not I may continue to try and find an interconnect. Even though I don't hear in stereo I do hear a difference in quality........I've heard these speakers before and loved them. Hopefully I'll have the same experience.

Thanks for your help and advice

3.1TL's are too new to be blade/blade. They are pin/blade. 3.1TL's were among the very last of the SDA's before they were discontinued.

How does 30 shipped sound. There is a little bit of the outer insulation missing on the end so its not perfect. The inner insulation is still golden.

I'm going to sit with what I've got for a bit and work with it. I'll hit you back in a week or so if I feel I want to give it a run with the interconnect. The price sounds fair to me though. Thanks!

No worries man. I have this lean manufacturing bug and try not to keep stuff around that I don't use.

From your description of setup you wont get optimal sound even without the IC. If you can get the front of the speakers on the same plane you will note marked improvement. Also things aren't going to be just right with bass response with the lack of IC. The driver array's are designed to work together in a semi sealed environment to affect the PR and each other's response characteristics.

Let me know if you need the IC.

Yea I gotcha. Ive never been a "keep it stock" collector. I can really appreciate some of the back to factory type stuff but I'd rather have 550 and a hood scoop ...hehe
