PA D5000.5 speaker and sub with different Ohm rating question

I finally finished installing Polk 6.5" DXI6500 component speakers in all four doors of my 2004 Chevy Crew Cab along with a PAD5000.5 amplifier and a Kicker 10tcvt102 Tcvt10 Single Comp 10" Sub rated at 2ohm and a Pioneer 4300DVD head unit. An hour or two each night after work and all day Sat/Sun for the last two weekends...I finished it up (for the most part) at 11:30pm last night so unfortunately I could not test it out do to sleeping neighbors lol! To the point...Is there any harm running 4 ohm main speakers and a 2 ohm sub off of this amp? The manual indicated it could run a min of 2ohm off the main speakers and 1 ohm off the sub channel just not realy clear if you could mix the ohms. The 5th channel puts out 400watt RMS at 2 ohm and the Kicker speaker is rated at 400watt RMS. I just don't want to cause any issues with the amp. I am assuming this is fine since I am within the specifications. Is the 5th channel actually a second amp or on a seperate system than the 4 main channels which would allow for different ohm ratings between the sub and the main speakers? Thanks for any advice you can give!


Rest of the install included Dynomat on all four doors (inner and outer panels), stuffed high density foam in the huge open areas of the body panels inside the cab...and got plenty of use out of my dremel tool since everything was a custom fit to say the least, except the head unit. Finding places for the crossovers was interesting too. Side note, if you own a crew cab...most websites say either the front and/or rear stock speakers are 6.5", they are not, but in fact 5.25" all around! The supplied universal brackets polk supplied with the speakers were a BIG PLUS! They helped the install go much easier. Anyone looking for advice or tips for upgrading the crew cab trucks let me know lol!

    It'll be just fine. A 1 ohm load is a harder draw on an amp so a 1 ohm stable amp will handle 2 ohms easily.

    Just went out and turned uped the volume on the radio to about 11-13 and I hear a cack in the right front speakers then the protection kicks in on the amp...any idea what could cause that? Could I have a speaker wire too close to another. In other words could the heat shrink I used not be protecting the positive/negative from arcing across to each other? I was pretty anal about making sure every wire was properly protected so I am confused on this one. The amp settings are only turned up to about a quarter or half turn from min setting right now.

    How high are your gains set? They shouldn't be over halfway and should probably be about the 10:00 position. If its set right then you're gonna have to recheck all your connections from speaker terminals to power and ground.

    figured it out...must have been drunk or something when I hooked up the front cross over because the input wires were plugged into the tweeter, tweeter into the input and woofer into the tweeter...needless to say it works much better when hooked up properly! Thanks for the input, I do need to tune everything now. I may start a new thread for that question since the ohm question is answered. Thanks again!
