I have Two tower speakers they have 4 screws at the back for bi amping i do not bi amp I lost the lil bridges that connect the top screw to the botom so i used 12 gauge sp wire I did not mix up the polarity meaning positive and negative I then ran my length of sp wire to my rxv 750 i placed the sp wire in the two screw terminals marked a for fronts i assume and did the same for the other speaker my dad said i set it up like a champ I also striped and twisted all my endings so i will get to the point when I play my sterio i warm it up i play it for half hour on low volume then i crank it up nice and slowly when i get to around 10 decables basicly anything past that it will shut off and say check speaker wire My speakers are capable of much more They can rock my house I am confident that my speakers are not blown,, yet my tweeter has a hole in the aluminum dome and on the other speaker has a hole in the mid range woofer the method i am using to listen to music is red and white patch cable with a female ending on boath with the same male endings proper coler red and white they end with a headphone jack going into my computer The computer was 1000.00 dollars so im sure it has a good sound card in it Also i tried using my dads carver amp and preamplifier and his switched off kinda like a breaker in a home I will try using my old dvd player and see if that works I may be able to use banana plugs but i may have trouble geting that bridge cable in or around the botom screw when the bannana plug is in U know the 4 bolts capable of bi amping and other stuff Please help me thanks. :) from canada

Most likely you've got a strand of wire touching something it shouldn't. Go back and look over your connections very closely.

It does sound like a direct short to your speaker somewhere along the line.As for the computer h/u I did a similar thing to your set up but my computer was in another room so I had to run 30' of 2 rca cables into audio1 of my Yamaha rx-v665 .On the computer end I have a wacky splitter that handles the rcas and my headphones at the same time for about $2 from e-bay .It works fine.
