Hi All,

I am currently in the downsizing stage and will be relegated to a 2 channel set up. This is in the main living room so it will have to double up on HT duties as well.

With that being said, is there a 2 channel receiver out there that supports 3D and still overall great quality? ~$500 budget.

Thanks!
TV: LG 55LW5600
Pre: Marantz SR6001
Front Amp: Parasound HCA-1000A
Center Amp: Marantz MA500

Sub: HSU VTF-3 MK-2
Games: Xbox360 and PS3

Back in the day when HT wasn't even in the loop.I used my two channel for TV VCR and so on.But today i think it would be hard to find a two channel receiver for 3D.Good luck with that and if you find one let us know please.

I guess that if you want 3D, DTS and such things, you'll have to keep your Marantz SR6001 receiver, or something similar. I mean, if HT is your main concern, a good 5.1/7.1 receiver will do the same job as a stereo AV receiver (which are rare now... does it even exist?), even if you only use 2 speakers.

Sure, there will be some "wasted" output as at least 3 channels won't be used, but it will only be less stressful on the receiver on the long run. As for now, you're using different amps for your front right? Will you keep them?

Anyways, just for your information, I do use a 5.1 AV receiver for HT duties with 2 speakers: It doesn't have any virtual 3D effect stuff, only DTS, but it's great for HT as it depicts a good soundstage overall. Maybe an amp with virtual 3D might help (like yamaha 3D DSP... I don't know how it sounds)...

As for me, I'm swapping for an integrated amp for music duty, as I do listen to music 90% of the time. HT is not even a concern (I only want better sound than my crappy TV cans).

If you don't care about DTS sound quality and effects, but want a greater fidelity and precision, you could buy an integrated amp and a DAC, or a good stereo receiver with an integrated DAC like the HK 3490... but it won't have anything related to HT, as 2 ch mostly goes with "music". If music is not your main use, then you should buy a 5.1/7.1 receiver, or keep yours and sell your other speakers.

Either refering to 3D support via HDMI so it "doesn't get lost in translation" (I don't know if it's real or not); or to some kind of virtual 3D options so it's 2 ch rig could offer a more enveloping sound.

I don't understand the question? What possible reason would a Two Channel receiver have for supporting HDMI 3D pass through? Since it is only two channel the best you could hope for is that it had coax or toslink inputs for 2 channel digital sound? There would be "no logical reason" to run the TV's video through the receiver--it doesn't gain you anything. Unless you're just asking can I take a TV or Blu-ray that has HDMI 1.4 and route the sound and picture to an HDMI in on a two channel receiver and back out to the TV?

But why would anyone make something like that? HDMI is geared for 7.1 Lossless HD-Surround codices. And that's what AVRs are for? You've got me on this one.

Just buy a regular two channel with coax or toslink and route your sound that way. A Harman Kardon 3490 allows for this and also has a Virtual Surround circuit to widen the sound field for faux surround from two channels. Plus two SUB-OUTS.
