Interesting, but I think those "ism" freaks have been known to have been at it for over 100 years. Hopefully the pendulum will always find a way to swing back the other direction.

No, regardless of who wins, we'll be treated to uncle sam in the middle of things.
Tax breaks for the wealthy- no thanks- everyone needs to feel the pain.
Expanded medical coverage? We're broke, who's going to pay for it all.
Create jobs? there's lots of jobs being created, JUST NOT HERE!
I spend all day dealing with India outsourcing. And my customers are just as
fed up with it as I am.
And why is abortion the big litmus test on both sides? 90% of Americans
don't care either way. Balance the budget, and get us out of the current
off-shoring trend or we have no future. WE can't be a nation of consumers and importers
and survive. China won't finance us forever.

How about everybody paying some paying some federal income tax so they have some skin in the game and realize that big government cost big money.

I think the reason we are still talking abortion is because we never voted on it. The Supreme Court just inexplicably found a "right" to it right there in the Constitution and took the ability of the states to legislate the matter away. They found it in the "right to privacy".

I'm sure that while the founding fathers were putting the final touches on the language of the Constitution when someone said "HEY DUDES...we better put something in there giving women the right to abortion on demand", then someone else said "Don't worry man, we got it clearly covered here where we mention "the right to privacy", and everyone was cool with that.

And we have never had a problem since.

This article misuses the terms "left-wing" and "socialism". In other words, those words do not mean what you think they do.

And John, what do you have against have against the Institute for Supplychain Management? Why should I fear them? Or is it Independent School Management that I should fear? Sorry, there's just so much paranoia around that I can't keep up with everything I'm supposed to be afraid of any more. So I stopped being afraid.

We can argue all day about what "left-wing" and "socialism" mean, just as we could argue what "right-wing", "conservative" and "progressive" mean.

These terms mean different thing to different people.

Do you agree with the meat of the article that we will do better as a capitalist-based country vs. a socialist based one?

Those getting money for free from those that have jobs will always think socialism is pretty cool. Nothing better to pass the day than a PS3 that you didn't have to work for and a bag of Cheesey Poofs. I had a woman in the grocery store in front of me with 4 kids in tow. After she whipped out a thousand different coupons, she grabbed the food stamps. It took her 20 minutes total to pay the bill!!! As a sort of experiment, I simply said "your welcome". When she said for what, I said that because my tax dollars are being spent to care for your family, paying for their food, educations and eventually their college, I could not afford to have my own kids. She told me to kiss her a$$!

I deserved that, but it also illustrates the huge sense of entitlement we have instilled in generations of Americans. 50 years ago, her church would have helped her at the very least. Today God is dead, hard work and pulling yourself up is dead, and so is the American dream. Funny what all that socialism gets you, isn't it? Free for all means nobody has anything and they share their misery together. Everywhere socialism is tried, liberty has died.

What a shame we were to stupid to see it coming...

Yet somehow even the Republicans fell for the bail out. I guess enough $$$$ from the banking
industry is enough gets both parties to agree to something. Sorry, both parties are dead wrong.
Time to go back and start over. Ron Paul was the only one of the bunch to question the bail out.
The rest drank from the magic bottle.

They are called progressives, and like a cancer, they have consumed both parties from within. JFK was not a progressive and refused to play the game... a bullet solved that. Reagan was the last man to try, and his tune changed quite a bit after the attempt on his life. They pick the candidates, and we get to choose between two sides of the same effin' coin. Heads you lose, tails... you lose because in the end, it's still THEIR coin and they make the rules.

I am out on this one guys, before i cross that line and get banned.

Actually the ones who we owe the most to is ourselves. We buy up most our own debt, see a problem with that ? Why do you think nobody is ever concerned about a balanced budget when you can just print more money. Alot of other countries cannot do that because their currency has to be exchanged for the American dollar, since it is as of right now still the worlds currency. But, that can change and I believe it will.

John, you're a work of art. Never seen any one who was so afraid of "isms", the Gov't, Unions, progressives and all the other political nasties! lol Have a drink and calm down. There is NOTHING new under the sun. Men have been trying to govern themselves in States of all kinds for thousands of years, and, mostly, FAILING at it.

You DO realize that Capitalists have as much "propaganda" as Socialists and Communists do. What do you think that cartoon is but a whitewashing of American history that leaves out all the conflict and violence this country has experienced over the last 200 years or so.

Chill out man. It's not 'your' America. It's OURS! And we don't all think the same way...and you know what? That is a very good thing. They call it Democracy. lol

This would all be well and good except for one thing, we are a Republic and NOT a democracy. Our founders knoew that democracies FAIL because they become corrupted by greed for power and wealth. "We the people" were given power over the government by democratic process(the right to vote) which has been corrupted by progressive means.

It is NOT OUR American Dream as America is a collection of unique individuals, not a collective of mind-numbed robots that should be following a script written for them by a central planning committee.

    Yes,

Some people could use some help from their families, their church, their communities, or maybe even the federal government.

What Liberals, or Progressives (or whatever they want to call themselves once what they called themselves last week gets a negative connotation) fail to realize is that when you finally put some expectations or limitations on people who don't want to work, or have chosen welfare and handouts as a "lifestyle" rather than a temporary condition, they eventually get around to working.

At that point, there becomes a lot more money available to help truly needy people. I have a younger brother who suffered a massive stroke in his 30's. He really can't work. So he gets some money from insurance, from social security, and from our family to make ends meet. He worked hard and paid taxes when he was healthy, and maybe he will be able to again if medical science advances and he continued to rehabilitate past where he is now.

He did not get into his situation because he was lazy or did not want to work, or thought the world owed him a living.

God bless your family and your brother especially. Absolutely he should get help, and he and others like him should be elligible for care on the dime of the tax-payer. but also think how much better his care could be IF those that were milking the system or were on it just because they want a carefree life were forced to find another way to make a living. I have no trouble helping anyone that has played the game by the rules and something happens to change their game. It is the ones that have no seat at the table to begin with that break the rules and get everything handed to them without participation whatsoever that drive me nuts.

John, I'm afraid you've stepped in it above. Really? It's 'yours' not 'ours'? And anything 'ours' is an invalid "collective"!

Even if it is a collection of unique individuals then it follows, logically, that there should be 'many' Americas not just one right one! And that some of those "alternate" Americas might be distasteful to you and maybe even me? Good luck on that. All through the day....I, me, mine, I, me, mine, I me, mine! Remember that song?

It is of course a Democratic Republic, but no one has yet proven that Republics of this kind are the best form of Democratic rule...the jury, history, is still out on that! Some would in fact argue that it is precisely this kind of Democracy which leads to corruption because individuals give up their freedom to their representatives who represent 10s of thousands and in some cases millions? And it becomes all the easier to "lobby" these "few". All too easy.

And to all a good night. Not much time for this. I have a China class to prepare, you're familiar with them, they hold our IOUs. lol

CNH... please don't mis-understand what I am saying. Our government and laws, until the early part of the 20th century, were designed to promote equal opportunity. The Progressive movement, born at the end of the Victorian Era were really a bunch of rich snobbish, racist intelectual elitists that felt they knew what was best for the teeming masses. Their ideas were not to better society as a whole, rather to improve life for themselves by removing the unpleasant stench of those they felt were beneath a worldly existance...

George Bernard Shaw, Margret Sanger, Woodrow Wilson... look them up and read/listen to their own words. These were evil people. Ever wonder where Joseph Goebels learned the fine art of corrupting the masses into believing the absurd? Edward Bernaise, and the Wilson administration! That's right... from US!

You are truly entitled to your views CNH, and I respect them. When I say this is my America, I mean it in the way our founders intended it to be. This is my American in that I should be free to live life free from a government wanting to tell me what I can do, where I can go, what I can eat or say. The persuit of my happiness allows me to build my life to my own design. My little piece of America, and to each according to their ability should have a right to persue their dreams as well. We are all guaranteed and equal opprortunity, the outcome is up to you.

I guarantee you I am not a "net beneficiary". I have have worked since I was 13 and I am 53. I have never been unemployeed for even a day even after losing my job several times (union activity - thanks progressives). I have never received unemployment or a food stamp, or a block of cheese.

I assume that I will never see a dime of what I have paid into Social Security.

All I ask is to be left alone and not taxed even more.

On balance, I think you probably owe me money. I don't expect to ever see any. Maybe a thanks would be nice. But don't expect that either.

Hows that whole recall thing going up there ? I read a story the other day that said a judge has declared that signatures from Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler were valid. What kind of weird dimension are they living in up there ?

Funny thing is about all this, is that mostly Americans have simple needs to keep them happy. Like what you may ask ? Let me give it a shot, I could be wrong.....I'm sure you'll tell me if I am.

Americans love freedom...freedom of choice, freedom of religion, freedom to not be forced into buying things they don't want or need. Freedom of speech, Freedom to come and go without being spyed on, Freedom to eat what we want, drink or smoke what we want. Freedom to educate our kids as we each see fit.

We also want available decent jobs....most here want to work....I believe that.

We want cheap gas to put in the car to get to work.
    We want reasonable food prices.
...and we want to keep as much of our paychecks as possible....without being taxed to death.

You do these things I mentioned, and the rest of the B.S. won't matter.

Do those freedoms include freedom to have an abortion? Are we only against Government intervention unless it's getting rearended by the religious right? I have absolutely zero game in the abortion argument, but I find it laughable that the same people that want Gov't out of their lives want to impose it on others to shove their beliefs onto them....

I wouldn't expect you to understand there Brett, but abortion has nothing whatsoever to do with this discussion. This is entirely about how far we have fallen from the vision of our founding. Let me answer your question however. The religous right is as far wrong as the athiest left IMHO. The Fed has as much a right to the abortion issue as they do telling me how many rounds of ammo I can have in my house... absolutely zero. There is no "right" to an abortion, rather there is a right to self-determination, the persuit of happiness and all that. If a STATE wants to allow for such things, then so be it. If they don't, that's ok too. If a woman wants an abortion she is free to go wherever will do one.

BUT... I also believe that a father has as much a right to the child if he wants it as the woman does to abort it. Fathers have rights to, and gender politics has been played to the point that fathers are considered little more than a sperm donor and an ATM machine in the eyes of the courts. Equal rights must apply to dad's as well.

Remember also that the Constitution state "freedom OF religion" not freedom FROM religion. This means I must respect your right to not believe as much as you must respect my right to believe. This means a Christian girl, or muslim has as much a right to wear displays of their beliefs, even if an athiest does not approve. kids being sent home from a public school for displays of faith, so long as they are not acting as missionaries on school grounds, is a violation of their rights.

The abortion comment fell into the 'freedom this freedom that' blurb......

Abortion arguments are not made on behalf of dads......and I don't think I've ever even heard that as part of the debate......it's about religious right deciding, preferably by imposed law, what the woman can or can't do.....the morally superior right likes to legislate mandates onto others for what their belief system is and how others are supposedly expected to live by.......it's complete shite.

i don't even know why i'm getting into this.........i'm out.
