So, let me first say that I am not really experienced in home audio.. I know some though. I currently have a Onkyo all in one box set up. Its a 7.1 set up. Its not too bad, but not great. So I have been looking to upgrade... This is what I have so far.

2 monitor 70's series II for L&R
1 CS2 Series II for my center
2 OMW3's for my rears

I am still looking into subs... Opinions there?

I have been doing some research on receivers and this is my front runner I am considering http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/aventage/rx-a810/?mode=model

Would you consider that overkill or under powered? If you could recommend something better for the price or even cheaper I would be willing to sway...

Also, I would like to Bi Amp the monitor 70's and as I understand do do this correctly I would need to get an external amp and hook it up via the pre-outs on the receiver? If that's the way I should go can you recommend an external amp that would do the job efficiently? Or will the receiver I have power them well enough without having to bi amp?

I appreciate any help, and feedback! Thanks!

*edit* Doh! first post and I spell "Opinions" wrong in my title... lol

Setups not bad. everyone has to start somewhere. It took me a few years to piece together a setup that I am completely satisfied with.

Shopping for a receiver is tough. You want to stay with in a budget but you still want to get the best of everything. I picked a price limit and read reviews on the receivers in that bracket. I was going to get the yahmaha a1000 but I ended up with a pioneer vsx32. The biggest reason for the switch was that everyone claimed that the Pioneer was a better sonic match to my RtiA5's then the Yahmaha. The receiver that you are looking at is very capable unit.

Bi-amping is a debatable subject, some swear by it others love to hate it. I have it done to mine I think i noticed a difference as far a punchiness, but I have no proof. All it cost me is 12ft of cable so i figured why not.

You dont bi-amp with a separate amp. You receiver will do it itself. all it does separate the mids and the highs to "different" internal amps. Then you you connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on your speakers. It will give you instructions in your manual.

Preouts will allow you to use external amps instead of the internal amp on the receiver. External amps typically are much more powerful and provide a better sound.

As far as a sub. There are alot of choices. all I can say is I have a dsw600 and I love mine.

How big is the room? Is it hard or soft (drapes, carpet, upholstered furniture)?

Well, I am going to be moving soon... I would say its for the most part hard now, solid wood flooring 2 windows with leather couch/loveseat..

Also I am starting to lean more towards this receiver now... http://usa.denon.com/US/Product/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?PCatId=AVSolutions%28DenonNA%29&catalog=DenonNA_US&CatId=AVReceivers%28DenonNA%29&Pid=AVR2112CI%28DenonNA%29

Well the Yamaha has preouts to add an amp, the Denon doesn't, but both will run those speakers on their own. Question is, one gives no room to expand for future upgrades, you cool with that ?
