Hey guys! Just bought some Rti8's and like them but was curious.... would it make a big difference adding an adcom gfa 555 to my system. I'm thinking the additional watt should help right? Currently I am using an HK AVR 247 at 50 watts a channel. Also, do you leave the amp on all the time or do you have to manually switch it on and off every time you use it? Thanks!

It will make a big difference.Like night and day.

I am not sure about leaving the amp on all the time or manually switching it on and off.But if your HK and the Adcom have 12v triggers, the Adcom will turn on when you power up the HK when the triggers are hooked together.Someone correct me if I am wrong.

    Congrats on your new speakers!

It will make a huge difference, and just leave the amp on all the time. Welcome to Club Polk.

You have to switch it on an off it does not have a 12v trigger. You DO NOT want to leave it on all the time as cfrizz stated. If you did you would get a thump every time you powered up the receiver and run the risk of damaging your speakers. Welcome to club polk.

You can leave it on, I ran the Adcom gfa7000 for a year without ever turning it off. It never thumped once and never gave me a single problem, it should be a nice improvement.

If I powered up my 555 before the pre, it would thump when I turned on the pre. There is a reason most people turn their amps on last. It's an off chance it may do damage but I would not want to take the chance, IMO, YMMV.

I turn the amp on last and switch it off before the pre upon powering down. I love my rti8 and had them hooked up to a couple of different receivers and thought they sounded great for a movie and just ok for music. I bought a yaqin tube integrated amp from eby and could not believe they were the same speakers. The just vanished and the sound was coming from thin air it was great and it only cost $575 but you can get them for $450 (yaqin mc10l )

I hooked my rti8 up to my emotiva amp and they just did not have the magic the tube amplifier gave them even when powered by a high end preamp. Sure the adcom will make the rti8 sound good because its properly powered but the diff wont be worlds apart

Has anyone used a smart power strip like the one below to turn on/off a power amp without a trigger? I've always wondered if this was a viable solution.
