Center Channel Speaker Problem?

I just hooked up my all Polk 5.1 (with Denon A/V receiver) home theater system and it sounds awesome. Blu-rays work well, music CD's work well, but I have one question. I have AT&T U-Verse as my cable provider and most of my channels are digital. However, NO sound ever comes out of the center speaker when watching TV. When watching TV sound only comes from right and left front. Is there anyway to get sound through the center channel speaker? I have looked through all my manuals and I can't find a solution anywhere.

How do you have the cable box's audio connected to your receiver?

If it's digitally (coax, toslink, or HDMI), which it should be, then the problem is probably a setting in the cable box. Look through the on-screen menus and settings.

If it's hooked up anologly (sp?), with just a left and right, then you need to set your receiver to Dolby Pro-logic or the like so it can make a fake 5.1 soundtrack, but you should have it hooked up digitally to get the real 5.1 soundtrack.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out, and Welcome to CP!

    Vizio 42" TV
    Denon AVR 1312
Polk Monitor 30 Series II front R&L
    Polk PSW10 Subwoofer
    Polk RM8 Center Channel
    Polk RM6751's Rear R&L Satellites's

All of my connections are with Mediabridge HDMI cables. I checked the Denon AVR menu and the Vizio TV menu and no setting for Dolby Pro-logic. I'll see if At&T remote has menu setting. Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

Re-read my post. If you have a digital connection, which you do, you don't need Pro-logic.

Check the audio settings of your cable box, not the TV.

OK. I went into the AT&T U-verse settings and under Audio they only have two options: Stereo (was checked) and Surround Sound. I moved it to Surround Sound and now I have sound coming out of ALL 5.1 speakers. Not sure if wife will like it though.

To me it sounds OK. However, I did notice that now in order to get the same volume level I need to advance the volume about 3 to 5 notches. Thanks for all your help!

    Congrats!

Now you will hear the 5.1 channel mix the way the sound engineers intended it to be heard. Whether you like their mixing or not is between you and the engineer's artistic capabilities.

    Cheers,

    Ben
