Do Tweeter Crossover Frequencies change with age?

I'm a new member with a pair of Monitor 10B's. I just ran some test tones through them and found the crossover point from the sl1000 tweeter to the woofer was broadly centered between 500 to 1000hz. I get as much or more output from the tweeter than the woofers at 1000hz. The factory stated crossover point is advertised at 3000hz. It seems as though the tweeter should be rolling off much higher than it is. I would think the tweeter would be distorting and in some danger of damage trying to reproduce this low of frequencies. Any thoughts? Thanks

The crossover itself for sure ages over time and parts in it ages and that will change the crossover points. When I rebuilt my crossovers the speakers sounded so much better I can't put it too words. At the top of this page you can see there is a list if sticky open the one for your speaker and you can see the parts you will need too get. Do a search there are a lot of threads on rebuilding monitor 10's and good luck.

As Phasewolf said, sounds like your resistors aren't resisting anymore. Time for a few new parts.

I have found that caps change the most in value over time and if I remember right there is 2 electrolyte caps in that crossover a 12 and a 34 uf cap and I am betting they have dried up by now.

I'm sure the crossovers need rebuilt. I just wondered what the originals ( or a rebuilt set) should measure.

If you are refering to the test tones, Phasewolf. I used a cd and my ear in close proximity to the drivers. If you mean the parts in the crossover I haven't checked them yet. Hopefully today.
And I found something interesting. My 10b's have the mw6600x woofers. 3out of four for sure. Evidently some did make it into the 10's from the factory. All have M10 ink stamped on the back.

Too really understand what is going on you need too see it on something like a scope. http://www.trueaudio.com/ has a program you can get a free demo that will allow you too see what is going on. What I did was setup a Mic on my PC and then I removed one wire off the tweeter and at low power too a reading. It allowed me too see what was getting what.
