PSW1000 Sub with replacement amp...is it worth it?

Hey all,

Just did my daily craigslist search for "polk" and got a new hit, and it's a doozie. I've been in the market for a sub to fill out my newly upgraded HT room and "powered sub" is usually the second cl search I've been making after the aforementioned. I didn't make it that far today, since this showed up.

So that begs the question, is it worth it? A little digging and about the only negative I can find review-wise is some excessive port noise, not sure if that's a legitimate issue or not. Another concern would be the replacement amp he put in it, seems maybe a red flag that it may have been abused? Anyone know anything about this Dayton Audio HPSA1000 sub amp? Is $300 fair for this subwoofer assuming it's functional and I can hear it in action and like the sound? That's near the top of my budget for this, since I've been fairly busy and can't spend the amount of QT with the setup that I'd like...but if it ends up being a can't-pass-up deal then I suppose I could justify it :)

For what it's worth, I'll eventually pair it with TSi400 fronts and CS10 center once I get the fronts' crossovers rebuilt (another question for another day), R10 surrounds. Nowadays I'm still running HT with SDA1A fronts and CS350-LS center.

Idk. Not a fan of remanufactured items! I have one and looking for another. Having a hard time finding one though. If I don't find one soon I might put mine one the market!

    A PSW1000 for $300 ??

See it , Listen to it ----BUY IT!~

Sure it matches my LSI's in look but sound is where it was at when i was shopping for a sub
Polk says it's a "musical sub" and i would agree - i have it set up to pick up (or down as the case may be) where my 15's end and it really comes off seemless regardless of the music I'm playing - much like the LSI's, it's the music I hear and not the speakers

For Movies I usually change settings for that added kick

    - AMP issue - early run on this sub had issues with the amp from Polk - mine is a later one and no problem
have heard very good things about units with the Dayton amp

    - Port noise - IMHO - minor issue - to get it huffing - i have trouble hearing the port noise with all the stuff falling off my bookcases!

Negatives - sure would be nice to have a remote
    - if max slam for movies/rap/dance is your thing then you may want to keep searching.....but for that price go for it

Well I picked this bad boy up last week, was willing to give it a look at $300...but must have had my first e-mail sent to spam or something since he reposted at $200. It was too juicy to pass up. :)

I'm still working on placement and getting it to blend well with the SDA's, although the cursory Transformers viewing definitely showcased its potential. Not to mention upon level-setting on the receiver after which the roommate yelled down the stairs asking if there was an earthquake. :)

Anybody with SDA1A's that could recommend a crossover freq?

It's a Dayton Audio HPSA1000, seems to do the trick. No remote is a bummer, but hopefully with some fine-tuning I'll get it in line with what I need it for.
