I like it. They kill nine, take three, and leave one or two to warn their friends about what happened.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

They should always leave one wounded with just enough life left to tell the story to their buddies.

Unfortunately there seems to be an endless supply of those who think we won't extract a pound of vengence when they harm US citizens.

Happy for the SEALS, and the safe rescue of an American. At least this trip into Somolia ended better than the last one.

I question however why we went in at all. Seems whenever the WhiteHouse needs an image boost, they send in Seal Team 6. No better PR than this...

I'm just kind of curious as to how much one of these little exercises costs the taxpayers.

It's a great and necessary act, so I'm not worried how much it costs me as a taxpayer.

I have to question why Americans put themselves in these situations in hostile foreign countries, then our military has to risk someone saving them. Plus, as mhardy6647 mentioned, the damn cost of the rescue to us, the taxpayers.

I think it's called freedom, and sometimes the cost of freedom can be very high. The cost to keep our citizens from doing dumb things and volunteering in parts of the world they really shouldn't be in could be even higher. I personally like the message it sends that US citizens can volunteer and go to parts of the world that have a high risk associated with them, but if you Mr. Dumba$$ terrorist, pirate, etc. want to F$$k with them, the last thing you will see is the business end of a US military weapon. That I am willing to pay for with my taxes. The issue beyond that is the cost to our young people that risk there lives as part of our military to do the rescues, money can be created (as our current admin has tried to prove!), the lives of our soldiers are one-time events.

The only other recent Seal Team 6 events I can think of are Bin Laden and the pirate incident. I would hope you see neither as an "image boost", as both were very necessary events....

I'm personally happy with the message sent here; just as I was with the message those snipers sent to the pirates on the African coast.

Agreed, and don't get me wrong... I am all for taking it to the bad guys. I do find the timing of events rather curious is all. The Prez is giving the SoTU speach and this morning we wake up to learn this. And this guy is not the only one I am skeptical of. I thought Grenada was another event that was designed to boost a faltering administration. I find it deplorable to use military force IF it is simply a way to boost the poll numbers. May not be the case here, but it is also an action Presidents have taken for decades. Even the Doolitle raid on Tokyo in 1942 was little more than a publicity stunt, though it did force the Japanese to re-think the notion that their homeland was untouchable.

Personally, I would like to see Somalia reduced to a glowing glass parking lot, but that's just me.

I think they were freed peacefully. After all the Somali pirates/kidnappers were dead I'm guessing it was a very peaceful release of the hostages.
