You sold the Carbons before hearing the Harbeths ?

From what I can tell, 2 different presentations between those 2 speakers. But if "BBC" monitors are your sound, then they should please you well.

From what I've read, their message board is awful.

No audition...guys I'm in Sierra Vista Arizona; there's no hi-fi for 185 miles, and there's no Harbeth dealers until California. The 7ES-3 is extremely well known, well reviewed speaker, I'm not worried in the least. Relax....LOL.

I've been following this speaker, and the HL S5 for quite a few years, nothing new--I just was waiting for the right opportunity. $2400 for a $3650 speaker in exc condition, was that opportunity.

    Congrats Steve.

I hope you like them as well or better than the Fritz's since they are already sold. I personally never get rid of what I have until I'm sure I like what's new, regardless of reviews, etc. They will be different, for sure. I'm sure once you get some time with them you'll give a detailed review.

Just take the bracing out of your current speakers, same thing.

If they sound anything like the Rogers bookies we heard at Lou's for PF 2010, I think you'll like them. They will be different than the Fritz's for sure, but different isn't always a negative.

Congrats. I think you'll like the change.

I think so too, my ears are getting more and more sensitive to mid-range quality--because of loss of upper-frequencies. I'm also needing something a little less laid back, for the same reasons.

That concert in Vegas really laid a hurt on my ears, so it was time to switch gears a bit.

My only concern and it's just an observation. Is you state your hearing is shot, to me that means you may prefer a speaker that's tilted up on the high end to compensate for your hearing loss. I'm not sure the Harbeth's will give you that type of presentation compared to what you are getting with the Fritz's. (that's not to infer the Fritz's are tilted up on the high end, but the Harbeth's will be more laid back from what I understand)

But, only you will know once you get things dialed in.

Good luck and it's always exciting to get new gear to try out. I get my new office rig DAC today, the waiting is killing me!

Sean could probably answer better than I, as he has heard both. But from what I understand, the Carbon 7's are likely more laid-back than the Harbeth in the treble region. "Fritz" voiced the C7's pretty darn polite in the treble; sometimes I feel maybe too much. I think the carbon 7 would be stellar with tubes--better exploiting that sweet tube treble.

Same here. Then again, there are always extenuating circumstances...

    Congrats, Steve!

    Looking forward to a review.

Hey Steve...this is part of what this hobby is all about. I applaude your spending a fair chunk of change upgrading/changing (whatever you want to call it) to get a different sound, unheard. I spent over $1K on my Pass Aleph and was a little apprehensive about whether or not 30wpc was going to be enough, it's plenty as I have yet to reach the amps outer limits.

I had read all stellar reviews of the amp and bought it based on the reviews and NP's rep. I have not been disappointed in the least, probably the best single purchase I have made. It was a leap of faith at a time when over $1K was a significant amount of money to me. I wasn't working at the time, but I just had to have it. Not one single regret!

I bought my Mini Two's sight unheard, and to fund the purchase I had to sell my Magnepan 3.6's.

Luckily, my dad wanted the 3.6's, so I worked out a deal where I sold them to him for a good deal, with a clause that I could buy them back at any time... so I had a safety net.

Yep, I have to rely almost 100% on reviews/recommendations from trusted sources--as the only thing in Tucson is B&W, Rotel, and Paradigm--for the most part. Sean (Zero) turned me onto the Fritz speakers while I was considering Totem, Dynaudio, and Salk; and pretty much hit it out of the park when interpreting what I was telling him about what sound I was looking for.

The only item I bought unheard (so far) that didn't pan out well were the Athena towers I had a while back. The Pinnacles that they replaced (Classic Gold Towers) were a far better speaker.

Mark's positive comments on the Harbeth were also good justification for me, as he has had his ears on a lot of bookies, and I respect his opinions--I believe Russ is also a Harbeth fan.
