What would your choice be?

I hope to be getting a new receiver soon, and have it narrowed down to two, Pioneer Elite VSX-53tx or a Yamaha Rx-V3300. Which of these two would you all pick, and why? I'm enlisting your opinions to help me decide, so please, your feedback will be important.

If you are not hell bent on those two receivers check out the Denon 3803. I just bought one from www.6ave.com for $649.06 (Ithink they are up to $688 now). It is brand new in box and a hell of a deal. The site is selling the 3802 but is out of stock so they are shipping the 3803 at the same price. It is 110x7 and has video upconversion which the pioneer doesn't seem to have (not completely sure though). I would check out the site at least. It has Denon warranty too (checked it out on the Denon site and 6th Ave is an authorized online retailer). It is the best deal I have ever seen on the 3803 (I looked for about 3 weeks) Good Luck!

Terry, scrap the idea of a 3803 right now. It isn't enough for your 150s. Unless you got at least a very powerful 2 channel amp to go with it, then I'd highly rec. the 3803. If it were me, I'd go with the pioneer Elite between those two. I think it would mate with the RTis better than the Yamaha.

The price is $688 for the 3802. If you buy the 3802, they will send you an email or call and say they are out of the 3802 and offer a 3803 at the same price. As far as running the 150's with the 3803 I have no idea if that would be enough power but the pioneer is only rated at 100wpc.

Thanks for your replies so far. Hm.... The 53TX is rated at 100 w/c and the 3300 at 130 w/c, any input on how these amps rate? inflated or conservetive (sp).? Feature wise, they both are very close. One doing a small thing the other don't a visa-versa.

One nice feature about the 3803 is the video upconversion. I have a Denon 2900 and a XBOX that inputs to the 3803 with 2 sets of component video cables and a VCR with a composite video cable. Then only one set of component cable go into the back of my TV. This is nice because my TV only has 1 component input. It also has a pure direct mode that shuts down all video and other unecessary circuits while listening to music. It does sound a little better when you do this. I haven't yet played with it enough to comment on all the memory modes and tweaking that can be done. I am from the school of thought that I like to keep all my electronics the same brand if possible so I would try and match the receiver to my DVD. Just my opinion though.

Terry, I was running mine at first with a 3802, and it simply wasn't enough for them when set to large. The more I think about it though, maybe the best thing for you to do would be to go ahead get the 3803 at the price you can get it for, and use the savings from geting that instead of either of the other 2 and use that money to get a good (maybe even used) 2 channel power amp of at least 200 watts per for the 150s.

As for the pre/pro section in it for movies, the 3803 is probably best in it's price class.

Picked up a RX-V3300 today locally and for a better price than I can find anywhere on the net. I plan to use the 3300's L/R main speaker outputs to power the Tweets and Mids, and a Parasound HCA1000a to power the Woofs of my 150's, until I can round up another HCA1000a so I can run the outboard amps bridged.

You're gonna like the Yamaha with your Polks. Polks tend to be a little "bright" in the treble, and Yamaha equipment has always had a mellow, "british" character to it. Yamaha is some of the most listenable equipment you can buy--no fatigue, just fantastic sound...The "Rega" of Japan.

....man I miss my C-65 preamp.
