Just realized i had yet to post pics.
Thanks to travis(tnhndyman), for making a FIVE HOUR ROUND TRIP, and auditioning and delivering these babys to me.
Much heavier than the tw1s, tw1as i have owned.
Not so sure they best the 1as we had to send back due to ups damage.
Only been 2 days, but Me and deb were blown away by the 1as, hated sending them back, maybe it was just from a first exposure to this lines top offerings that swayed our opinion.
Or maybe its due to the fact that sometimes ears can be selective, not reading reviews, or knowing one model is a later more sophisticated version.
I know im looking forward to the research, these are very impressive, and im glad i have them

If you want to see the best thread on time windows period, go to avs forums, and look at "Whatever happened to steve eberbach"
Many talented experienced folks who have been swapping dcm parts speakers and such out for years, in fact you will see my questions and the answers from some of those folks.
Would love some 600s, have some 400s for years, they are great for 2 channel, and awesome for ht fronts.
BTW, just got new caps from erse for the rebuild, will be shipping them to audiolab in atlanta.
Jaime hauser from the dcm thread on avs forums figured out which would be best replacements after one of his many consultations with steve eberbach, founder and inventor/engineer responsible for the dcm speaks.humpty dumpty was pushed -
Sweet! hope you enjoy.
I have pairs of the TF-600, TF-1000, TF-V8.0 and Time Pieces. I would love to hear a pair of Time Windows. I hope to get some of those and maybe one day run up on pair of the elusive TF-2000's.
I use the TF-V8.0 and Time Pieces in my HT along with a DEF tech center. not an exact match but pretty good as the midwoofers are very similar. the major differences are in the upper highs due to the titanium tweet in the Def Tech where as the DCMs I think use the poly tweets. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

Impressive collection, could you rank the tf series you own.
I have heard some say their faves are the 600s, not sure listening environment other gear or whatever.
Any chance of pics?
about a month ago, there was a pair of tw7s on ebay, sorta lost track of bidding because it was pick up only in california.
Also, Jamie on the avs thread has two sets of sevens in his home theater, and a pic of eberbach standing in front smiling.
Jamie is also fabricating a set of sevens from scratch, pretty interesting stuff.
BTW, I have relatives who live in anderson, near lake hartwell, talk about a place that has just blown up in the 30 years since they moved there.humpty dumpty was pushed -

It's hard to say any particular one is my favorite. It would depend on what i was listening to and what kind of mood I was in. If I had to pick one it would probably be the TF-V8.0It has a very similar driver arrangement as the 600 but with an 8" bass driver and a narrower cabinet design. It still has the rear corner mounted tweets like the 600. The cabinet just fits more places and has slightly better bottom end.
For overall sound I would say the TF-600 is more pleasing though not as bold or with quite as detailed highs as the TF-1000. I think part of the listening pleasure comes from the rear mounted tweets as imaging seems to flow better on the 600's and the V8.0's vs the 1000's without the rear tweets. The 1000's however, have what I think is a Vifa tweet and 8" bass driver along with the a slightly different mid-range setup. If I remember correctly they have the similar 6 inch mid-bass but also a 4 inch mid. I could be wrong but i think that is the case. At any rate they are very different from the other two. they are much more bold in both the top and bottom end as compared to the 600. The V8.0 has a slightly stronger bottom end but not quite as smooth. Mostly due to the cabinet shape. The 1000's have more detail in the highs than either of the other 2. I can't get to them right now or I would check the driver configuration to be sure. I enjoy all of them
For critical listening I would choose the 600's
For satisfying a little need to get loud and satisfy the male ego it would be the 1000's
For overall enjoyment including a balance of sound and convenience it would be the V8.0's.
I would still love to hear the Time Windows, with the twin baffle design i bet they fill the room and smooth out the sound stage wonderfully.
I would own one of every model if I could find them and afford them when I did.If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

Nice rundown, i would strongly urge you to pick up some time windows, i know you would appreciate them.
I picked up some rough looking, but perfectly performing originals for 100.
The 1as for 175, and the 3s for 310.
All could be found cheaper probably, but once i have made up my mind on an audio piece, i normally dont haggle.
Good luck on your audio journey, and if you can get some pics of your dcm collection, i would love to see them.humpty dumpty was pushed -
radon/cy
maybe you could post a note here about the tw3s that i sold you. just in case i need a reference.
thanks!

Aside from the TW7's, these are the best DCM's out there, in my opinion:
Macrophone:
Time Windows squared:
The imagemasters were great as well.
Out of the TF series I'd choose the 600 and the 1000. There are a few TF-2000 prototypes out there that were killer as well. The smaller ones without the rear/side tweeters arent anything too special.design is where science and art break even. -
Newrival, your killin me.
I dont remember seeing the time windows squared ever mentioned,......anywhere.
Where did you find all those?
Nice setup with the comfy chair.
I have played with the adjustable pots at the bottom of the back of the tw3s, I think i have found the key to the lock.
Someone must have played with these things somewhere along the way,I dont see the guys at the factory letting these go sounding the way thay used to,from what i hear they tuned each speaker individually at the factory, just maxing them all out has made these speaks sound completely diff.
Over time, will play with each pot individually to see what i can do.humpty dumpty was pushed -
In the process of updating my Time Windows and just got a line on a nice pair of QED's. Should know for sure on them in a week or so.If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

I inherited them from my uncle. Which interestingly happened mid-way through my DCM fascination phase. I didn't even know he had them until I uncovered them in his attic. The word is that they didn't sell as well due to their ~$2k price point. They had separate tweeter and mid/bass cabs. They were nominal 12-ohm. There is almost no info out there on them. I was able to track down the patents and the white papers, aside from that Steve E. is about the only person that can shed any light on them. And even he wasnt clear on all the particulars.
The macrophones I bought on eBay.
I've only ever seen 2 other pairs. One was totally trashed, the other was not as nice as the ones I found. I sold most of my DCMs to friends so I can listen to them if ever I get the itch.
The QED's are decent. The TW's are much better IMO. Before Polk. I spent 2 years collecting DCM speakers. INterestingy enough, I just had crazy good luck finding all the rare ones. Even a number of the prototypes like the TF-2000's.design is where science and art break even. -
^ what's a decent price for a pair of QED's, I've seen a pair local on CL. Been meaning to call Scott and tell him about them2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.
-
If they're in excellent condition, I would spend up to $150 on QEDs. But only if you REALLY wanted them.
I'd say 120 is fair. I've seen them sell for more, as well as far less.
I haven't priced DCM's in about 2 years so Im not the best source for e current market, but IMO that's where they "should" be.design is where science and art break even. -
QED's are now in the house. These are prob the ones TNHNDYMAN was close to, they were in Tn. I didn't give what the seller was asking but more than what newrival recommends. This is the only pair I've seen around the southeast and being crazy about the vintage DCM's I really wanted them. Not quite the shape they were described as but not terrible either. The couple drove down from Tn and met me in Asheville NC so that helped out on the total cost as well, and also encouraged me to make another offer on them since I had already driven the distance i had, instead of leaving them be since they were not as nice as described.
They sound pretty darn good. They appear to have the same tweet as the TW1's but use an 8" woofer/mid. Though the soundstage is not as large as the TW1's the imaging is still great and with a slightly fatter bottom end. They will be another restoration project before long.If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!
