Not sure if this is the right place for this, but i just want to say this is the absolute best forum I've come across in a long time! Everyone has been very helpful with facts and also with personal opinions.

Choosing a HT setup is rather overwhelming considering most cannot be demoed. I've gone from looking at the TSi400 or RTi A5 and building a complete HT for around $1400 to understanding the concept of getting better quality fronts (A9's or LSi15's) and building as i go.

I came into this forum thinking i knew what i wanted but boy am i glad i found it before i bought. Otherwise i have a feeling in a year i would be spending more to upgrade the lower models.

Thanks everyone especially to Jbooker, tonyb, and anonymouse. Regards Rich

This quote right here is probably one of the most important things people need to be aware of. I see threads all the time with people wanting to buy the minimum to get by, when for an extra $100, they could get something that will suffice for some time (aka years)

Welcome aboard, and you will definately find some good information here. Speakers, electronics - heck, even pets and other random things get good attention here.

Welcome Rich, We like helping people put together the best system possible that will keep them happy for years to come. It usually ends up costing more money since they start out wanting whatever is the cheapest rather than something a bit more expensive but of better sound and quality.

Make sure that you get a receiver that has preouts for future amplification upgrades, when you get an amp, if you have a HT system, get a 5-7 channel amp of at least 200wpc @ 8ohms and be done with that upgrade. Unless you are one of those who like to constantly fiddle with the gear rather than sitting back & enjoying the system, then don't be afraid to get something nicer that costs a bit more, but it will keep you happy for years to come.

You can also get good gear on the used market from www.audiogon.com, but if you rather have new, Outlaw Audio & Emotiva make great reliable gear that won't cost an arm or a leg and let you get into separates at a reasonable price.

+1000 on what a great forum this is. I knew some about audio when I joined in July, but have learned a whole lot more since then. The people are great (sometimes smartasses, but I prefer that )

Most speak from the heart and experience, which is invaluable. The constant is a love of great sound and the sometimes hairy journey it takes to get there.

    Sappy but true.......

Thanks and very true. I've decided on the Emotiva XPA5 with the A9's. I feel its a good starting point and the cost isn't outrageous. Also im coming from a boxed HT (if you can call it that) so i should be amazed with the above.
