I've sold enough stuff via local CL to really hate these scams. Trying to sell an expensive Canon lens and got this one today:

I really appreciate your response to my email.I want you to consider
it sold, pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid
disturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via bank
certified check .I will like you to provide me with the following.
information to facilitate the mailing of the check to you ...

1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check
3.....City, State and Zip Code
4.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you
5.....Total amount for the item

Anyone have a really good reply I can start using to piss these folks off? I usually just ignore them, but I'm feeling like striking back today.

I'd ignore. I wouldn't want them to get my email address. Plus emails like the one you got are generally automated, and I doubt anyone checks the inbox.

Agreed. The beauty of craigslist is that people don't have your real email address until you write them back. As soon as you respond, I guarantee you'll be on dozens of spam lists within days... if you respond, the only thing that will suffer will be your poor spam filter, which I'm sure is already working overtime.

They're getting better at getting people to respond as in the email you get appears more like it's personal and the names seem real. Used to use offshore email addys, now I'm seeing gmail accounts.

How much you want to invest and how expensive is the lens? Send him a broken lens, one of those thermoses that looks like a lens, anything, but put the full MSRP on the customs form. He forks over the customs since the lens is "free" to him, opens the box & is screwed. Yes, you're out shipping, but depending on the value of the item and the tariffs for the country, he could be out hundreds.

    To whom it may concern:

You ARE correct, the item has "already" been sold to a Mr. Warren Buffett of Omaha, Nebraska who forwarded a "bank certified" check in the amount of $10,000 for it as you specify in your e-mail. I'm sure someone as "resourceful" as "yourself" would have no problem contacting Mr. Buffet and getting him to "resell" the item to you for "less"?

If you are still interested in this item, please contact him "directly".

    All the best,

    Joseph Gotyabydeshorthairs!

Use a fake e-mail address, or just register for another. And have fun. I hate these guys!

Two more similar emails have arrived since posting. I hate it when I think there is a potential sale only to realize it's a spam/bot based on dollar threshold I think.

Best not to respond to this type of mail. As the poster above stated, you will start receiving spam in a big way. Just my opinion.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Go to his house with a flamethrower. That'd be a pretty snappy response.

Read the first page, then scan to the bottom. It would take a long time to read that whole thing. But it is hilarious.

I like that scammer scam story.

Just delete those responses and be patient. Be patient, a real customer might respond with-in a month and if not, keep relisting every week if you want to. I've deleted a hundred or even double that, scam responses. Like others say, a response sends your PC email address info to them.

    Good luck with your sale.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
