wire for xover mod?

Have two trusted sources recomending two types of wire for inside cabinets of 5jr+. One: 12 g copper strand and the other 16 g copper strand. The latter said runs are short enough for 16 g. Input would be appreiated. Thanks.

    They already use 16 gauge stranded copper.
