Hello all. I am considering an older Sony CD player for purchase. I want to line up a replacement laser before I go ahead and buy the unit. Anyone know where I can find one ? The laser in question is Sony KSS 271a. I was also wondering if there was someplace to find a cross reference. Any input appreciated and thanks in advance. Cheers.

Those are no longer available according to the Sonystyle website. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

There has to be a "replacement" equivalent available. After all, "Techs" repair these things and often use substitutes?

Thanks, I'll give them a try. -
This website is about DAC's in cd players but also lists the cd mechanism which will include the laser unit. Many were used in various different brands and models. I'm sure it will help you find what you need. Ebay is also a good source for new old stock parts on stuff like that.
