Mid driver on CS400i not working

Hey everyone,

I bought a CS400i and haven't really gotten a chance to use it until tonight. I hooked it up and one of the mid drivers just didn't seem to put out as much as the other. After pulling the crossover, I noticed the one isn't working at all. I switched the wires that go from the crossover to the mid drivers, and then the other driver works while the other doesn't. So therefore there is a problem with my crossover. I looked over all the connections on it, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. What are my options to get this working as I have no idea? I was thinking a loose connection, only because one of the mids works fine. And on a side note, the tweeter works as well.

Thanks
AVR - Yamaha Aventage RX-A800
Amps - B&K Components ST2140 (for mains) and Parasound HCA-1000A (bi-amping center)
Mains - RT1000i Towers
Center - CS400i
Sub - BIC Acoustech PL200

My neighbors listen to very good music, whether they like it or not

Look on the back of the crossover and make sure the solder joints are good and not cracked. I would just reflow then myself just too make sure but that's just me.

Having one myself the two mid drivers don't work together, they are tuned at different frequency's.

    Will check connections again.

I thought, too, that there may be a crossover between the two mids. However, if I disconnect the one that is working, absolutely nothing comes out of the second one.

I think the two mids are the same, did you swapped them? Does the mid that doesn't work still doesn't work?

I swapped the wires on the two drivers, and both drivers work with the one set of working wires from the crossover. When I swap the wires, the opposite mid doesn't work. Is there anywhere to find what frequencies the mids would operate at, if they operate at different frequencies? I can try doing a frequency sweep on them.

The only thing I can add here to check out center, is to put this as a L or R speaker and place AVR in 2 channel stereo to play a cd or something. Both speakers should work but at different notes of the music.

Alright, so I tested it out some more and found that if I crank the volume up, I get a very small amount of sound through the one mid driver. Maybe this is how its supposed to be, but its a minimal amount of volume coming out compared to the other driver. Even through frequency sweeps, the volume on the one driver never gets very noticeable.

I just checked mine, looking at the speaker from the front. Left speaker is louder then the right speaker, but the right speaker is working. It's normal as it always done this.

Other then all this, how does this speaker sound? It's a great center speaker.

It's completely normal. When I first got my CS400i, I noticed the same thing.

Thanks disneyjoe and htguru. I like the sound of it, and this thing is a monster. I upgraded from a cs245i which wasn't made for much more than a small room. Im happy that I have something that can dynamically keep up (and surpass) my RT1000i's since the center is where the action is at during the movie.
