Trying to help out a friend, receiver choice...

A good friend of mine is going to be using my old Rti-A3's and Csi-A4's in his new man cave. He has had multiple questions about receivers. I've helped some with my limited experience.
He is looking to spend no more than $500 on a receiver. Used or refurbished is alright. I think he is down to Pioneer, Denon or Onkyo. I had very good luck with my Onkyo but he is worried about the old hdmi issues that some of them have had. He would also like to have dual hdmi outs (this is where the price starts to really go up on him.)
A couple models that he has been looking at is a Pioneer Vsx-1021 or Denon 1922 (Neither have dual hdmi, but they are in his price range). Anyone on here have any experience with these?
There is a Pioneer Elite Vsx-33 for sale close by and the individual would let it go for $300. I think that this may be his best deal so far.
Trying to get him to go with the Pioneer SC model right from the start, but it's just not quite happening.
Thanks

I'm trying to steer him that direction. I think it's a wonderful deal that will work for him for years to come. We'll see what he says after work tonight.AVR: Pioneer Elite SC-67

Not sure on the differences of those models. I can tell you I just received a 1021K and it is an awesome little performer. " Little", compared to my SC-07. I like the AV control it offers, allowing me to completely run the receiver with the Iphone or Ipad. I can use Airplay from the Imac, the apple tv or the Ipad through the 1021. Love it. If the 33 is the better receiver at a great price go for it.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

An outstanding buy in that price area is the Onkyo 709 factory refurb available here at Accessories4Less for about $480. It has all the features he needs, including dual HDMI outs, and very importantly, Audyssey MultEQ XT auto-calibration and room correction.
