audio and reciever Q

The short and skinny:
I have a Samsung7000 connected via hdmi to a Onkyo609 reciever. The receiver powers speakers that I use instead of the tv speakers. I also have an ethernet cable connected to the tv for netflix. Netflix uses the tv speakers for sound.
What can I do easiest / best solution to achieve sound from ethernet connection to come out of the receiver?
Thanks for your time.

If the TV has an optical or coax out for digital sound, run that to the receiver. Even it if doesn't, it should at least have a stereo out, and you can run that to the receiver.Turntable: Empire 208

Use the optical audio out, to the receiver. Go into the menu and turn off the TV speakers.
This is assuming that the TV doesn't support the HDMI ARC (audio return channel). This would allow the HDMI cable to act as a 2-way cable, sending video to the TV and audio to the receiver (from the TV)65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

I apologize, I should have specified. The tv is a samsung7000. Last years model...it does support hdmi arc. I guess my question should have been, how do I do hdmi arc back to the receiver if netflix is wired to the tv via ethernet?CAR:

For all practical purposes, Netflix/ethernet really has nothing to do with anything. Technically the ARC should carry any sound that the TV would be projecting through it's own speakers.
Just out of curiosity, are you currently using the ARC and it's not working with Netflix? I just want to be sure I'm not missing something. I've got the ARC as well, but I have nothing directly connected to the TV, so I can't really say if or how it's working. I'll try it out with the youtube channel on my TV and see how it works. Maybe we both can learn something here.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Is there something on the tv / receiver to turn ARC on or off? Like hdmi passthrough? The only reason why I say ARC works for me is because of the type of hdmi cables I am using. My setup has every device going into my receiver and the hdmi out going into the tv. The ethernet also goes into the tv. I just wasnt sure if sound or how to make the sound from ethernet related content travel back through my hdmi into my receiver and come out of powered speakers.
Sorry for the confusion! :cheesygrin:CAR:

It does look like your TV supports ARC, but I believe your receiver also needs to have the same support? It's tough for me to call it since i know both of my components support it. I would double check your receiver and TV, and check to see what each says about the ARC channel. Generally only 1 of the HDMI will be marked with it.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Did some rearch, and it looks like both components need to have the ARC turned on in order to sync.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Well, I could not get it to work out this way. Looks like I need to go the optical way...
Thank you to all for the responses. I do appreciate it.CAR:
