I have a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ (Disk-less) for sale. I purchased this new in March 2011 and it has a 3-year factory warranty (parts & labor) so you have a couple years left. I can provide the receipt if necessary. The $190 includes shipping (CONUS) and any PayPal fees just to un-complicate everything. It will ship in the original factory double-box.

This is a 4-bay box with Gigabit Ethernet. It supports Raid 0, 1, 5, and Raid-X. In addition to the usual Windows/Linux clients (CIFS/SMB, AFP, NFS) it also supports DLNA, UPnP, and has a built-in iTunes and BitTorrent server. It is Logitech Squeezebox approved.

I have upgraded the memory from 256MB to 512MB and the firmware is current. It hasn't had any abuse and was working perfectly last week when I disconnected it.

Prices on these seem to be all over the map. New ones are anywhere from $310 to $400 and used ones are around $200 with the bidding still going on. That, or they have a 30 day warranty which may not be a good sign. Anyway, we're all friends here so if the price is out of line just let me know.

Here's a couple of pictures and a link to more specifics: http://www.readynas.com/?cat=4

Is this the one that will run the squeezebox server application?

I did not run Squeezebox software on it but according to the manual and the ReadyNAS website it runs:

SlimServer / SqueezeCenter provides music streaming to the popular Squeezebox music players from Slim
Devices. You can click the http setup link for more detailed configuration options.

    • iTunes Streaming Server enables iTunes clients to stream media files straight from the
ReadyNAS. You can click the http setup link for more detailed configuration options.

    • UPnP AV provides media streaming service to stand-alone networked home media adapters
and networked DVD players that support the UPnP AV protocol or are Digital Living Network
    Alliance (DLNA) standard compliant.

    • Home Media Streaming Server (similar to UPnP) provides streaming of videos, music, and pictures to popular
networked DVD players. The streaming players often utilize the streaming client developed by
    Syabas.

Perhaps someone else with direct experience can comment. I ran mine with "pull type" music players like the Netgear NeoTV, WDTV Live, Popcorn, etc. to play FLAC, DVD,, BLurays, etc.

Here is a comparison chart if you want to see what the NV+ can do compared to the rest of the current ReadyNAS line.

    http://www.readynas.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/ReadyNAS_Comparison_Home.pdf

Main differences are that the NV+ runs on the older, less powerful Sparc CPU, while the newer ones are Intel Atom x86. This means that any new plugins going forward will likely not be compatible with the NV+. A few plugins are already in this state, which are for Orb, Skifta and TiVo.

Also, while the NV+ is indeed capable of 1080P streaming, it is dependent on the amount of RAM installed and the combined speed of the hard drives installed. To put it another way, while the NV+ can be made to do 1080P streaming, it is a bit of a stretch for it.

Also, keep in mind that this NAS would probably need to be put somewhere out of earshot, as its fan is quite loud. Well, not hairdryer loud, but for a listening environment, definitely distractingly loud.

If your intent is strictly audio streaming and if you have an out-of-the-way place for the ReadyNAS to live, I'd jump on it without hesitation. Great bargain on a great NAS.

One thing the NV+ can do that the newer ones can't is join a Windows domain. So if your intent is for business use and you need it to join a domain, then this is definitely the way to go.

Adcom GFA-545II, GFA-6000, Outlaw Audio 990, Netgear NeoTV
    Denon DCM-460, DMD-1000, Sony BDP-360, Bravia KDL-40Z4100/S
    Monster AVL-300, HTS-2500 MKII

Since I don't have a current use for this - I'm sweetening the deal then it's off to CL or the Bay.

Price reduced to $160 PLUS I will throw in a Seagate 1TB SATA drive (Model ST31000528AS, 7200RPM, Date Code 2010).
I've run a complete set of diagnostics on the drive (SeaTools) and it passed everything. The drive alone should be worth $60 - $80 at today's inflated HD prices.
