Hey dudes!

I am selling my preamp -

This is a fully loaded Candela, it recently came back from Klaus about 5 months ago and is up to 2012 specifications...

Has the extra set of outputs
Has the remote control
HT Bypass for use with Home Theater receivers
Silver front/back
Transferable 20 year warranty
Will include Mullard, RCA Cleartops and two sets of GE 12au7
I have original box and power cord - they do not ship with a manual...

Fully loaded as you see here it would cost roughly $1,700 -

Condition -

The unit is in like new condition meaning when it came from the factory there were two marks on top that are hard to see in regular light but are there and there is a very small 1/16" long mark on the front - again from the factory... I would rate it a 8/10 to be conservative - 9/10 realistic

The only "issue" with the unit is one of the screws that holds the top on (attaches on the bottom) is stripped from just general tube swapping. The top stays on fine and does not create any adverse effects to the unit

Why I am selling -
I am selling because I am going to go more into the HT side and digital relm - I just realized I dont use my two channel much because I just have changed the way I actually consume music - therefore I no longer need something of this caliber.. :)

I am looking to get $1200 shipped with paypal (open to SERIOUS offers)

This would be an INCREDIBLE step into 2 channel for you HT gurus - fantastic sound traits.

I can take more pictures upon request

Hell has frozen over . . . time to pick sides people. Maybe there is something to the 2012 prophecies.

PS This preamp could be someone's legit step into real high end sound and not some cheap Chinese tube buffer with a volume control.

Hehe - I have been debating this for months, going back and forth.

I sit down and listen to my system and it sounds amazing - by far the BEST it has ever sounded, PERIOD.

Problem? I just want to have more music at my finger tips and stuff that I actually listen to more real time... I know this preamp can be a part of a system to do that but I plan on selling everything - speakers, amps, preamp, cd player, everything and just starting fresh...

I am far more HT/multi channel oriented than I was say 3-4 years ago... :)

This was listed on Audiogon for the same price but please message me if you are serious with an offer - I have had issues in the past where someone saw a lower price here and have lost quite a few sales because I would not give someone the Polkie price... so let me know! :)

I believe it was, too bad he's probably never heard one properly.

A local Polkie has a Candela and it's a sweet piece that I never thought I'd see Trey put up for sale.

It was a shot at Chinese garbage. I loved my Odyssey Candela back when I had a pair of Stratos Extremes driving a pair of Acoustic Zen Adagios. The Candela is a solid pre by any measure. In fact, I bought my first Candela after buying Trey's old Khartago before I upgraded to a modded Candela. My point was that someone could really treat their ears to some nice sound and get a real taste of the high end.

Not intending to derail, but I meant the cheap Chinese tube buffer you were talking about. No doubt, like I said, this a sweet pre. A friend owns one. No trolling, a little ribbing perhaps

Hate to derail the thread, but Mike, any suggestions on good hi-fi shops to visit? So far I have hit Ovation (multiple times), and some place down in Broad Ripple (want to say Audio Solutions) and thats about it.....

And free bump as a result of the post (not that I think this needs one )

Man, you're unloading some nice stuff!

I love my Candela with RCA Clear Tops - it has a stunning openness, sweetness and clarity. Also love the remote volume control. Contributes to a much better listening experience as I'm not jumping up and down to Adjust the volume.

Hey just remember you can use this with a HT receiver to introduce 2 channel goodness into your system... simple HT bypass configuration - SIMPLE, EASY, SOUNDS GREAT!

Not to mention this thing is built like a tank, has like 16 years of its warranty left. You are taken care of - FOR SURE!

Also forgot to mention I will not be including the RCA clear tops as they became microphonic about 10 hours ago... :(

However still have the Mullards, GE tubes and I MIGHT* have some JJ tubes laying around :)

What does it sound like when tubes become microphonic? Occasionally I hear a high pitched continuous whine from one or both speakers, or from my tube pre amp itself. It's not very loud and is masked once the music starts. Not all the time, and it immediately stops when I power down the pre. Not hearing it now for example.

Even when the whine is occurring the quality of sound doesn't seem to be affected.

Somebody buy the Candela - It's a great pre, especially with NOS tubes!

Just had a look/listen to the You Tube video. That's it - whine is a little higher pitched, but that's it. Interesting what the guy said about it coming and going. I have Herbie's Tube dampers on my clear tops - I wonder if it would be worse if I removed them?

    Most likely...

I found I disliked tube dampers they made the tone die in my system - became bright and etchy... have you tried them with and without?

I listened to the JJ Teslas (stock tubes) with and without the dampers. It was a while ago, but I remember that there was a slight increase in smoothness and clarity with the dampers in place. Not a huge difference, but it was an improvement.

Just stuck 'em on the clear tops when I rolled 'em in, haven't tried those without.
