10A mods - any good reference threads?

So, I went and bought that kit off of ebay before checking here... :frown: now I see that there are some additional mods folks here have made in some random threads I've perused. But, is there a thread that makes all of this research available in one place - parts, testing, etc.

BTW, I'm just a guy with a solder gun, and have no knowledge of speaker design.

    Basically, the best option is to update the crossovers with new caps. Soniccaps is very popular, reasonably priced and a bang for the buck. Secondly, replace the original HF drivers with RDO-194s from Polk. That will smooth the top end as the original drivers get harsh as they age since the plastic drivers harden.

    if he has 10A's and peerless I wouldn't upgrade the tweet. If they are later 10's w/ the SL2000 tweets it'd be a good move. Plenty of threads here to help you along just search a little.

    I have 10Bs and below is one of the threads I saved about upgrades. Lots of good info that will apply to 10As. There are differing opinions on what brand of capacitors to use. Your pocketbook will probably be the deciding factor. The old saying, "you get what you pay for", probably applies but I can't say for sure. I haven't upgraded my caps yet. If you happen to have 10Bs I can recommend the RDO-194 tweeters. They are an improvement over the sl2000s.

    If he has Peerless, he can't upgrade to the RD series without modification anyways. It's a simple design, just yank the xovers and double check the values vs the schematics posted here on the board. There's all kinds of little things you can do to ensure they are at least to original specification and upgrading xovers is just an option, not a neccesity to do so.

    Tighten your drivers, seal them with new foam or neoprene rings(not Mortite), replace the binders, mount spikes, etc etc.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
