Extremely frustrated

It's what I always suggest on Customer Service. Tighten the post all the way down and simply pop it up with the blade.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I actually take a knife or a razor lade and stab it at a angle and lift outwards - usually takes approx 5 seconds- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Tried that, still flush if not a little recessed. There was no place to put the blade.
Look guys, I'm not an idiot, if it was as simple as people are posting, it would have been a non-issue. It was one of the more frustrating things I've had to do audio wise. The reason it was frustrating is because it should be simple, not be the huge production it turned into. Perhaps is this/was the exception not the rule, but I have never seen anything so simple turn into a full blown tear down and still not get it done 100%.
Perhaps they weren't the stock plugs, but whatever they were, they weren't/didn't come out easy.

A box cutting knife with a razor blade might have gotten done. I still think the caps would have broken off leaving the shaft in the hole even doing that.

Small drill bit. Done.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

Several years ago, I came across the same problem when I was setting up a 7.1 system for the daughter and SIL.
The frustrating part is that you KNOW that it isn't rocket science, you KNOW what you need to do, and you KNOW it's supposed to be be as easy as stepping off a curb.
But it ain't happening.
No way to slip anything underneath the cap, snapped an Exacto knife blade off on the (I guess) SUPER-plastic that Polk had invented with the NASA space program.
Posted in the "TroubleShooting" section, asking for assistance; kind of felt like I was asking someone, "Hey, how do you tie your shoes ?".
Finally drilled the cap out, after dropping quite a number of F-bombs.Sal Palooza -

No, it doesn't as you don't have to use so much pressure that you cut the shaft of it but you do need to apply enough to dig under the lip. I'm not sure why this is so painful as I've removed a couple hundred the same way, every time.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Mark,
I would never have thought it would be as difficult as it was either. Just one of those things that happens once in awhile. I suspect they have been in there since day one and since these speakers have some years on them they were very settled in and I believe they became brittle over the past 12-15 years.
I was really just venting because I was frustrated that a 30 second process had to end in a dis-assembly of the crossover and a drill bit. **** happens.

Toothpick,Super glue,great idea.
Hope I can remember it when needed.
Thanks.
I ran into this problem with some Cerwin Vega's. I used a very small drill bit drill a hole in the plastic then used a small screw to pull it out....feel your pain Brock. Guess my thought is why even put those plastic pegs in there in the first place? The manufactures do want us to use them right so why the expense for them or do they just come with the post when bought from the supplier -

I thought of this thread last night as I was removing the plugs from my new to me LSi-7's.
It was more of a pain than necessary, but it wasn't too bad with a razor. I still ended up breaking 3 of the 4 plugs into multiple pieces, but they're gone now and I didn't damage the speakers.
They sound great, BTW!2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Sure you aren't related to PFB?h9,
maybe next time you could use a very small allen wrench through the hole of the speaker wire and just push the plugs. even a paper clip would do it.
good thing you have them up and running anyways and are enjoying them.
regards,
eduardoYou should part them out.Razor Blade.Tried that, still flush if not a little recessed. There was no place to put the blade.

I hope out of the frustration you can take Polkies toying with you a little afterall, you are the Polkie of the year!
It seems the painfull caps have been left there for years causing them to bind to the binding posts next time, try a tiny hole in them and using a very tiny screw to pull them out (as previously mentioned, a heated paper clip would also do the trick). I hope you'll get to enjoy those speakers for a few years to come as you seemed to have worked hard for them (or maybe they gave you a good work out )!DARE TO SOAR:

This plug problem happened to me also. At 50 years old, we do get short on patience with these type of matters. I got flustered using a razor knife. I thought about my old oil filter change I did years ago that turned ugly.
I went to do an oil change after Jiffy lube changed my oil previously. They didn't put oil on the ring before seating the filter. I ended up having to go to a MEDAC center for stitches later that day. It wouldn't come loose for nothing. I shredded the filter trying to remove it!..LOL.
And it in return shredded my palm later in the process. That was when I was 40 or so. Still, a 10 min. job turned into hours. It does happen doesn't it. :-(Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I did get the plugs out with the razor knife after alot of careful prying and breakage also.
I like the ideas that have been mentioned for future times if some plugs are hard to remove again. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
