Temporary Sub

So I just purchased 2 monitor 60's with the newegg deal, and a refurbished vsx-1021. The new sub is going to have to wait a bit. I have an old Bose Acoustimass 5 Series 2 subwoofer. It is unpowered however. With my amp, Will I be able to crank 200w of power to the sub, since I am only running 2.1 ? My same question is for the 2 Monitor 60's I have, or will all 3 only be able to get 100ish?

I think you are likely to find that you are better off not utilizing the Bose sub, but if you want to experiment with it, the best way IMO would be to hook the sub to your receiver's Height/Wide outputs, and then set the mode for those outputs to "Speaker B." That way their output will mirror the front L/R output and will have its own amplifier section.

Of course, leave the Monitors attached to the front L/R outputs. There is no scenario in which you would want the Monitors attached to the output of the Bose subwoofer.

    Very true ^^^

Plus if I'm not mistaken, those Bose subs are made specificaly for the Bose cubes and have a crossover built into them with no way of adjusting. Sell the bose sub and buy a real one, you'll be shocked at what that Bose sub couldn't do.

I will be buying a new sub soon, I just couldnt afford everything @ once. The bose sub was just laying around in the basement, and would be used until I get a new/better sub.

The main problem is that it is not a sub, but an "acoustimass module" or something like that. It is a mid-bass module designed to make little bose cubes have the frequency range of small bookshelf speakers. In other words it won't go any lower than the speakers you just bought, and I imagine it will sound worse with it on. But, worst case scenario is that you try it out and let us know how it goes! Good Luck!
