Fellow Polk People,

I recently had a pair or RT3000p speakers shipped to my home and one of the plastic bases was totally destroyed and the other was cracked.

I think I can JB Weld the lesser damaged base but need to find a replacement for the one that was totally destroyed.

Will pay the price for one or even two of these if anyone has some to sell.

Thanks

Can you make a copy of them out of MDF or 3/4 plywood glued and stacked ?
Utilizing the cone for the port is a necessity of course.

The adjustable screw feet would have to be adapted or not used at all.

We're thinking along the same lines but I want to exhaust all possibilities of finding an original before I go make my own.

The original bases are made from what appears to be a glass-reinforced thermoset.

I had another one of these crack a few years ago and having access to a full tool shop almost CNC machined solid aluminum replacement bases but eventually found a factory replacement on eBay (for $40).

Another option would be to machine the bases from a polymer or metal and glue the "cones" on from the originals.

    I understand.

Those solid aluminum bases would be very attractive. I'm also thinking that the rough bezels behind the grills could also be aluminum. Kind of artsy and unique but only with the black version I guess. If I only had a mountain of disposable cash...

Good luck with your search. I've seen them parted out evry so often too.In fact I bought spare amps and upper speakers from a member here.

I sold him my spare cabinet. Gatecrasher was very patient through a series of PayPal and FedEx issues - great guy. Seemed like there was a conspiracy to keep the gear away from him, but he hung in there.

I received the RT3000p cabinet today. Thanks rtart. It has everything I need to restore my damaged speaker.

Now I can go with the "RT10000" 10.2 surround system!

Glad you got it in good shape.

BTW, why only two subs? - 10.2

You sure did pack it nice! Styrofoam encased. Wish the guy I bought the system from would have packed the Rt3000 subs half as nice as you did. They wouldn't have been damaged.

The SC-09TX is a 10.2 AVR when fully-utilized but I only have one PSW650, hence the 10.1 in the sig. Maybe someday I'll add another separate sub but with the 12 powered subs in the RT3000p's and the CS1000p's up front, there's plenty of "blow your face off" bass to go around now and the one PSW650 provides ample additional Seismic effects.

Thanks again for the cabinet & parts.

Happy to pack it to survive. There are no more RT3000p's- and I'd hate to see a decent component trashed if it can be prevented.

Do you plan to use the LFE inputs or run the 3000's full range and use the internal crossovers?

I tried both several years ago and decided to use the internal crossovers. Although there's some good reasons to run all subs from the LFE channel, I like the capability of having the bass from each speaker reach a little lower freq. Bass above 100Hz can sound directional, and sometimes at an even lower frequency, so I prefer the point-source imaging from using the internal subs for the individual channel info. I have a pair of SVS PB12-Plus/2's, so I've got plenty of slam from the 4x12" drivers and 2x 1200 watt amps. I use an SMS-1 to EQ them.

However, with only one 'extra' sub I'd think running all the subs from the LFE channel might be interesting to try. Please keep us posted if you decide to try it.

I run the RT3000 & CS1000 subs from the SC-09TX Pre-Amp outputs which still utilizes the crossover and then use the AVR's amp to power the satellites. It is 140 watts per channel x 10. I have the PSW650 on LFE.

I plan to experiment some down the road though. I always do.

I'm getting ready to move in about a month though and will be packing these all back up in a few weeks. I kept your box for my move since it was so well constructed. I still have the original Polk boxes and packing material for my 1st RT5000 system I bought new in 2002. I always keep all of the factory boxes for all of my equipment if I can. They come in handy if you ever move or have to ship anything.
