24/96 goodness, Linn style

Finally registered on Linns music site to download some hi-res stuff. Unreal. I'm listening to:

Susanna Yoko Henkel - Mozart: Violin Concertos 3&5 24bit/96kHz

Awesome. The level swings have you diving for the remote, as the music goes from whisper quiet, to incredibly full sounding in an instant. Blackest of black backgrounds, strings rendered with outstanding realism/woodiness. The air and depth of the stage is fantastic. The flac files are fairly large, the whole album consuming more than a gigbyte.

It's incredible to hear the capabilities of both the Benchmark and Placette, as the delicate sweetness is served up in spades.

Yeah, well worth the $24 buck admission.

I completely agree about Linn and I am fairly sure Brock knows about Linn Music. Reason being Linn wanted some recorded music that would showcase their top end gear. They liked the bands music so much, they actually started their own record label to release that bands first album, The Blue Nile / Walk Across The Rooftops. Brock's brother Blake got me hooked on TBN.

Downloaded another selection last night, flac 24/96 Alyn Cosker "Lyn's Une". This guy is a jazz drummer, and it's quite a work-out for your speakers. Again, outstanding realism--cool demo music for sure.

I think Brock is streaming/sync'ing to other radios that aren't 24/96 capable, so LMS downsamples.

Because my modded DAC doesn't do 24/96. Also I'd have to spend a lot on a dac that does 24/96 at the level my modded Adcom is currently for standard redbook. I'm not in the market to buy something to play 24/96 when they are obviously like other source material, all over the place quality wise. I get angry enough now with all the various quality of music I own (based o poor mastering and mixing, etc). I don't feel like paying a premium for 24/96 material only to get even angrier :cheesygrin:

Nothing more furstrating than having a stellar rig that sounds incredible on properly recorded material and then popping in a favorite artist or genre only to have it sound like crap. That makes me angry, but I get over it.

The other downside too, is the file size. The 24/96 stuff averages about 1.2Gig per album; about 100Mb per song give/take. But the resolution is incredible. I think realistically---it's due to better recording techinques. I'd venture a guess that the 16/44 stuff on Linns website would sound spectacular as well, and I'd further speculate that most people couldn't tell the difference.

All of Linns stuff is available in whatever bit depth/sample rate you want. 16/44, 24/44, 24/96 and selected material in 24/192. WMA/Flac/CD/Vinyl.

Nothing more frustrating then people with poor spelling and grammar.

I agree with you though. I have the same feelings for some Dream Theater albums and other artists. I kind of miss my old system because the generic sound was good even though the source quality is the pits. Sad thing is there isn't anything you can do to better it.

I hate hearing an otherwise excellent album (content) destroyed by poor mastering. At the risk of losing my man card, both Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry had excellent first albums---that are hideously recorded, thanks to the "louder is better" boombox crowd...

Yeah, well I type fast and many times one hand is faster than the other so some letters get transposed, deal with it. I'm at work and don't have time to proof everything. Atleast I'm not on a smart phone replying. I've seen some responses that make no sense, I assume they are from a smartphone. Probably should **** at them too.

Very cool recording; several sections of track 6 you can hear the kick drum rattling/vibrating the cymbals. A very "live venue" raw sound to it. Puts a smile on your face. When I was coming out of the bathroom last night I thought, damn, sounds like their in my livingroom.
