Did anyone else watch this ? A guy brought in the what was thought to be the first known recording of Jerry Lee Lewis. They were friends way back & were driving around & came across this place that advertized ** come in & record yourself**
So for $ 2 and some change , Jerry's friend paid for the recording & got to keep the record.

The pawn broker brought in an expert & he verified it was JLL & valued the record at 8 to 10 grand.... now we are talking about rock & roll historic memorabilia...
broker offer 30,000 but the good ole friend of JLL wouldn't take anything less than $100,000 & I don't blame him. so no deal was made.....have ya ever seen a pawn broker offer 3 times what a piece was worth & get turned down?

Dang I love me some pawn star shows !!!!!

Except there is no proof other than "their expert" verifying it was JLL. It's reality TV take everything they do/say with a large grain of salt.

You're exactly right H9. Just where is the "reality" in all these shows?

I refuse to watch any of those stupid pawn, storage, repo, or whatever shows that are being passed off as entertainment these days.

This is what I do now for a living. Was tired of my other profession and decided since I have almost every known certification for jewelry, guns, security, etc. it was a no brainer. Does not matter what state the economy is in, people will always manage their money poorly. Being a pawnbroker sure is fun sometimes but it's mostly the same ol' crap day after day. I do get tons of gear though at insane prices. I just picked up a pair of ML Clarity speakers I am about to try out. A guy is coming in tomorrow with some Boulder gear. Just looked it up a few minutes ago and I have to say I am looking forward to meeting this guy. And no, we don't have an expert to call for every little thing and neither do they except when you have a tv show, lol.
    Everything matters. That is all.
Money cannot buy happiness, but it sure can buy a bad **** boat to pull up along side it though.

They are the entertainment of last resort for me, but they can be fun from time to time. I heard today that David Hester, the douchenozzle from the oringinal "Storage Wars" feels he needs a LOT MORE money to continue with the show, or he will leave the program. Why can I not get a cush-gig like that?

I kind of like the Storage Unit wars show(s). I've bought a couple of storage units at auctions and I was lucky enough to break even and cover all my costs. What these shows don't portray is the distribution network you need to have to resell what you buy. You can buy a storage unit for $300 that has stuff appraised at $3,000, but you still need to connect with the buyers who can and will buy at an acceptable discount to appraised value.

hey dkg, generally speaking, do people normally leave valuable stuff in those places.

I understand originally storing valuables, but i always wondered why, if you know you arent going to pay the rent, why you would not go get the valuable stuff before they take it.

we like the american pickers, not that we think its not staged, but seeing the old stuff is pretty neat, I couldnt stand to be around those guys when they start giggling though.

There is something rather odd about two guys driving all over the country digging through trash in a van, isn't there?

We had a storage auction up here saturday. It was totally a waste. 3 tiny units(4x10) that were nothing but mattresses  , junk and ghetto pine furniture. About 150 people were there.........lol. I wouldn't have taken them for free. A year ago, I bet there would have been 10 people. It was funny, alot of them had flashlights, trailers and box trucks. I could have fit it all in my pickup and taken right to the landfill. I should have started yelling YEEEEEEEUUUP from the back of the masses.

A little FYI, my boss owns a mini storage here in Michigan, and based on the laws and liability, we lock people out after 45 days past due, which is why most people don't get the chance to get their stuff. If it ever gets to auction, by law, we can only keep 3 or 4 months worth of rent, the rest is supposed to go back to the renter. Finally, most of the stuff in these units is junk! We have never found guns or anything of any real value.

Even though I'm from Michigan, Hard Core Pawn makes Detroit look bad. The owners and the customers are rude and obnoxious. I do enjoy Pawn Stars, it is at least entertaining, and I don't feel dirty after watching it.

IF, repeat, IF that vinyl is legit, it's worth a hell of a lot more than $100k. I'd take it to Sothebys, and let the board members of Sony, Apple, MS, WMG etc. battle it out at auction.

You want to look for storage units located within easy access to better housing developments, and unclaimed moving company auctions. Those both can be good. I have settled on allocating time to the unclaimed moving company auctions. I have about $20k of nice leather furniture in my house in IA that I got for around $2k.

I certainly agree ..... IF it is legit .......they did play it & it did sound like the young JLL .... all the facts fit as far as the time the recording place was open & the worn label on the record ....

Jerry Lee AIN'T Elvis Presley, I seriouly doubt the 100 thou estimate as being anywhere near realistic. But maybe if the right "someone" attends the auction.........

Agreed, the cash register runs at the values they place on the stuff. Not what they actually end up selling it for. In the end the value of anything is what someone will pay.
